i go to my big tesco superstore every wed and thur around 4, they do fab reductions, my local store is abit pants and rarely take much off, this one if out of my way but i have appointments for the kids and i'm passing on the way home, last week i had very little freezer room so didn't get much but did get my mum 9p bread, 13p scones, and 20p sausages, got some 10p pancakes for my kids cause thats there fave. i never bother going in on the last thur of the month because everyones been paid and they reduce stuff less, i tried going on other days but it's never as good, i assume it's because of when deliverys are things must go out of date around wed/thur.

This is a real gripe of mine and I am interested to hear people praise Coop because our local store is terrible. What really annoys me is that most of it will end up in the bin as a previous poster said so why not reduce it low enough so we really get a bargain? A lot of people will buy some full price items as well so surely the shop is benefiting? I would love to hear from someone in the know about how they price these things.
  • My local stores definitely double reduce. First one is always a bit rubbish, up to 25% off but usually around 10%. If it doesn't sell at that price, they'll eventually knock it down between 50-75%. I've only managed to hit the magic 90% reductions twice, on a Saturday night at Mr T and Sunday afternoon at M&S.

I will still buy a small reduction if it's an item I was there to buy anyway because as a previously poster said, those pennies are better in my pocket than theirs!

My local co-op is awful too. By the time they reduce the meat it's usually off.

Oh - and they are seriously money grabbing!

I was telling a neighbour that I met in the co-op that it was well worth travelling past the village shop to co-op even if you only buy milk because the milk in the co-op was the same size and even the same brand but was ten pence less. I turned to find a member of staff earwigging behind me. The following week the same size milk in the same size brand was no longer ten pence less - it was ten pence more!

I no longer use my co-op; more and more over time they struck me as money grabbing bar stewards.

To add to my previous posting, I find my Lidl has genuine reductions, not time related, all 30% off from opening time, and when it gets on use by they give them away free, but you do have to be up with the birds for that bit, so far only managed a free jar of lemon curd, but quite happy with 30% reduced bacon, mackerel etc

Thanks guys, my local co-op do have good yellow stickers, they just never seem to have them. Its rare to come across them anyway.

I love the co-op bargains, next to my mums house. She lives in a small village so they never sell everything. I have noticed of late though, the beef always look totally GAG by the time they even do first round of reductions.

They reduce everything to 10p near the end of the night. My freezer is full of lamb chops, chicken breasts, packs of 3 peppers (that I cut up and then froze) fancy breads and panani's, chicken pies etc.
  • I like the Co-op, ours is always rammed full of bargains. Even early on a morning, DH goes in if he is working late and brings us alsorts home!!! I love that. But near my mums it is totally rubbish, Sainsburies even there reducies are still dearer than everyone elses!!!! Asda is okay, but I dont like the way some people will physically move you out of the way to get one item!!! I have clostrophobia so I send the boys and DH in. Even the ickle one dives in!!!! I just stand and watch. But did you know this our asda will only allow you to take 6 of each reduced item if there is a lot of them? A manager and then a till opperator told me this! As I was kicking off about this family who had loads of the same veg rammed into their trolley.
Has anyone seen my last marble:A:A:A:A

As you have now had some input from the Old Stylers I've moved your thread over to the Food Shopping and Groceries board to see if you can get more advice.
