Hi Folks,
JackieO - Lucky you getting a free half dozen eggs, and the jam and spices. It all helps. The weather here is awful too, and has been for a few weeks.
modern millie - Nice to see you, look forward to seeing you pop back in some time once you've caught up with yourself.:)
Catznine - I'm pleased you got the chance to spend some time with your son.:D
On the subject of slow cooker/ remoska debate, I have a slow cooker but don't actually use it as much as I should, although it's great when I do. I'm tempted to buy a remoska but I just don't have the room for any more stuff in my kitchen.
kerri_dfw - Good to see you here again.:T
News from Kerfuffle Kabin: Today was Day 3, I haven't been out anywhere today so I haven't had any temptations to resist. Hubby and I had planned to go out to the pub to catch up with some friends but Hubby has an early start in the morning so I said we wouldn't bother as we would have to leave early, we'll go next week instead, so some pennies saved there.
Lunch today was, wait for it, lentil soup again because I made another batch of it last night, and supper was salmon with salad and boiled potatoes, then bananas and custard for dessert.0 -
I have loved ready this thread from when it started....
I used to be VERY thrifty/savvy, but over time it has just drifted away so to speak:cool:
I think in the begin it was because i couldnt do anything else as i had no money, but then wne the cash flow blip eases, and you get into a comfort zone again... the odd treat becomes the norm..
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I need to get back on track with NOT spending...and the best way is for me to start with our groceries....
when i was in the bath last night.. ( i dont know why this has allways been when i am in the bath, we end up having a family meeting with everyone in the bathroom while i am having a bath...lol...) we agreed ( well hubby and eldest son, youngest wasnt there) that we wouldnt spend any money on food for the next week, except for bread. milk, and a sack of potatoes..
which was great, then i realised that, that ment i would be shopping on the weekends:o,
so my first stint will run from today to wednesday ( 4 days) which i think is a good move.. baby steps to break ourselves in...
This is for our food only....... to begin with, but on saying that there is plenty of dog/cat food here, and hubby is buying our poultry food today.
Its not going to cover other spends.... but these spends WILL me monitored....
I think our stinking point will be running out of 'nice' things like biscuits, choc bars etc that we tend to snack on.... so will have to make sure i have a batch cooking day again, with aming cakes, biscuits, etc...Work to live= not live to work0 -
Big baking day for me today as I want to fill all my cake tins.Plus it will save me thinking about getting stuff for my DGS during the week.I got all my necessary shopping yesterday thank goodness and it came to just under £20.00 which was great so its Day One again and hopefully another week at least before I need any shopping.Tonights dinner will be freezer roulette as I have some bits in the freezer that I can't remember what was wrapped up so I'm game for a suprise for tonights meal
:)
I want to make some lentil soup later as well as its a good standby for lunch's during the week.
Onwards and upwards chums
modern millie I agree a remoska is brilliant for saving cash on cooking.I bought one about three years ago and its more than paid for itself.I too have the standard which is more than big enough for me.I also have a SC which is used about two or three times a week.I have cut down my electricity bil by a third at least over the past couple of years and only will put my big oven on e.g. today as I'm going to use every shelf for baking.Apart from that everything else get cooked in my 'mosky or SC0 -
Have failed miserably after a good start of 3 nsd's! Seemed to of gone out every day since!
Had to buy prescription certificate - £30, went to chemist, they running behind so went to a cafe and had tea and a toasted hot x bun as weather vile and didn't fancy loitering in rain for 20 minutes... Also went out for lunch with flatmate as we both agreed we needed fresh air! Also went to Tesco to get free hobnobs but ended up spending £14 on golly knows what, oh and £23.50 on a new bloomin laptop cable as mine died:(
Am out tonight and paying for dinner but from tomorrow must be firmer with the purse strings!I love food, hate waste and have a penchant for sparkly things ::D

Had to get some shopping in today (my first since the injury!) but really pleased with myself, bill came in at £25.30 and got me milk, yogurts (voucher), bertolli spread, mozarella, satsumas, mushrooms, strawberries, bread, fishfingers (can't help it , it's a comfort thing:o), prawns, fruit juice, dog food, dog biscuits and ice cream! Using vouchers incl price match ones helped and I now have a little box by the computer to keep them in for when I menu plan.
We then went to tk maxx to get a couple of outfits for my friends new grandchildren - 2 due within 2 weeks! Then to Boots where I used a £5 off no 7 voucher and picked up a lovely nail polish for £2 - Made a start on the Christmas bits :j I didn't buy anything not on my list and I have made a decision not to waste anymore vouchers if I can poss help it.
Just had a lovely 4 course italian style meal in the garden and all it cost me today was for the mozarella cheese! Leftover bread with olive oil and balsalmic vinegar, tomato and mozarella cheese slices with basil infused olive oil dribbled over, chicken (leftover from earlier) and tomatoes with pasta followed by melon and blueberries with some contreau! A bottle of reduced price red wine to go with it all. Just dh, myself, little dog and birdsong for company! Bliss!
Tomorrow I am back on board again, menu planned and ready to go! yay!
Just remembered I got a free travel size toothpaste in the post as well - so put 35p into the savings box! I have won a £1 of tropicana fruit juice voucher so looking forward to getting that! Thanks to the op's who posted about those!:money:
Kittendothroar - not a failure, just a day out!Prescriptions are very important! x

Catz - thankyou, yeah know they are important (keep me sane haha) but still begrudge paying but at least overall works out cheaper than paying indiviudally - have lost count of how many had in past two years of a rather challenging body!
It sounds like you are doing really good! As much as I am a purist with cooking I can't resist the odd fishfinger butty :-D
Hope the injury is healing up well!I love food, hate waste and have a penchant for sparkly things ::D

Aw thanks Kittendothroar! Yes foot is healing well and today I can put my weight on it! Yay!:j I know I have to be careful for a while but it is so nice to start feeling more normal and less vulnerable! It has taught me a lot and I thought with me/cfs I had come to terms with a lot but I now have a lot more understanding for my friends with more permanant restrictions.
Today I followed the menu plan and used up the last of the ham with salad for lunch, dinner will be bangers (leftover from a barbecue) and mash with baked beans, nice and easy, as I am de-cluttering and cleaning the house. Following the menu plan has saved a lot of stress and energy (hopefully money as well) It is flexible so meals can be swapped according to dh's working hours etc.,
I have found lots of "lost" treasures while de cluttering. A new to me book which I am enjoying (keeping me away from amazon and our local market book stall as well), also lots of toiletries - bubble baths, moisture creams, scrubs, hand lotions.
Well done craigywv on emptying your stockpile, I am still attempting that so that I can defrost the freezer! Have a wonderful holiday!
Right off to tackle mount ironing pile ..............
