Day 4 - lunch has just been a pasta and sauce sachet (dated july 09 so needed using up!). I am trying not to spend until Wednesday and will find it easier when I go back to work tomorrow - less temptation!44 day challenge
1. Pay £650 off overdraft (£ 288/ £650)
2. Lose 12 lbs (4.5/ 12)
3. Use YNAB everyday (6/44)0 -
£9.91 spent on a top up this morning so ready for day one tomorrow. I have always thought that I wasn't particularly prone to becoming addicted to things but am finding my food hoard a bit difficult to get my head around. Logically, using up food supplies should be easy however there is an inner reluctance....."A thousand candles can be lit from a single candle without shortening the life of that candle."
I still am Puddleglum - phew!0 -
Day Three
I've hidden my purse under the mattress in the spare room - also under loads of junk :rotfl:
Stew hasn't been put on so will do that tomorrow and have pasta and some of the sauce I made earlier from the freezer tonight. Lunch was out of the freezer - hotdogs!
Gardening this afternoon - taking lavender and rosemary cuttings to eventually plant up as hedging.
And thanks to the poster who mentioned dumplings - will be making those for the stew tomorrow. Yum!"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Not quite got it right this time. Had to buy bread and carrots today. £1-20. Çurrent weeks spend so far is £4-70/£10 so still on target.
Bit cold here for gardening.0 -
Puddlegum......I too have a reluctance to use up stores,I am positive I have been a hamster in a former life. I have gone through everything though to see what is out of date to use these things before they can't be used, and am using this to sort out my freezer (which could take a month or two) but will be repalcing with new once done. I like to have plenty of stuff in 'just in case',also food wise if I have made vats of everything and frozen it there is less need to food shop often and I find this more cost effective.
Well I avoided shops ! So a NSD:j
I have however spent most of the day watching movies and not done anything much productive, but the cat has loved me just lying about. Did give kitchen a good clean to motivate myself into doing things ,but that's as far as I got.oh and a load of washing.
I still have loads of veg left, salad looks a bit sad now though,so may get away next week with not buying too much at all other than real basics, and doing a freezer dive.
Actually I am going to go through some drawers of clothes and find something I haven't worn for ages,or I can alter, too make it feel like I have a new 'treat' and that way will be less tempted to go to shops tomorrow.
So I still have £80 or £90 in happy cash (haven looked as I'n not even looking at money today) and I think £50 of my £100 budget a month food money (most of which I spent before doing this)......so I am on track!
It has been good to read these post especially today...it deffo made me stay away from shopping reading all saving motivation from others. Befor doing this I wouldn't have given it much though at all if any. Ha....I've also saved petrol thinking about it.
Keep up the fab work everyone.
Walk away from the purse!
:TYep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Spendy day today - DS1's 12th birthday, so we went out for lunch - he chose where we went. Used a voucher, so saved a bit - was £65 for 6 of us - shared dough balls to start, 6 mains (4 were adult ones), 4 desserts, 6 drinks and 2 coffees. Not too bad, I guess.... (!!) - well, could have been much worse, I suppose. Also hit the supermarket and bought a Sunday paper, some f&v, milk, bread/ rolls/ wraps, some cereal, g-pig food, reduced fillet steaks and a reduced chicken breast, sandwich stuff and a couple of store cupboard items - £34 after discounts and vouchers. Was good and put back some items which we didn't really need. Will need some grapes from A!di in the week, though.
Whilst no spending at all is really hard to do for me, this challenge makes me think a lot more about what I do spendAnd consciousness about where money goes can only be a 'Good Thing'

Hi all,
jumping back on board as from tomorrow - my last few days have been similar to greent's, birthday party spend was also about £65 for DD, still eating the leftovers(!!) but probably would have been more without this challenge, was very conscious of trying not to waste anything.
Did buy a coat for DD on Friday, reduced from £80 to £29, to be kept for Autumn, she will definitely need one then and it was too good a bargain to miss. Pleased that I haven't spent on myself as I really don't need anything.
Spent part of today revamping wardrobe for the Summer, and made a couple of nut roasts using stale bread, also a bread and butter pud.
Working Mon to Thurs this week so FF should be fairly easy those days, may make exception for my craft group on Fri as is held in a cafe, will have to buy a coffee if I go.
Calicocat, can I ask, what is HS? Can picture you on the sofa with your cat, this is what mine like too, are quite indignant when I move them!
Well, good luck next week everyone, keep it up!0 -

I would love to be able to say Highlymotivated Shopper......lol.....but it is called hydradenitis suppurativa ,had it for 25yrs,and to be honest don't have it as bad as some by a long stretch so prob shouldn't complain !
But I think when it gets me down I have a tendancy to buy something which I am trying to train myself not to keep doing! Esp as am likely to need an op in my armpit and looking online could be off for months, end up on half pay etc......hope that wasn't too much info.lol.
Cheered self up by watching marley and me instead (except last 15mins).....who needs to spend when there are great animal stories!
Cat hasn't moved for nearly 4hrs except to turn round!.....lazy mare.
Have plans to tidy flat tomorrow so avoid shops....oh except have to get a script but I'm not counting those .
I love this thread and think I will be on it for a long time..it gets you really thinking about what you spend and how others save etc,I think it's a great little 'community' if that's an appropriate word for it.
See you all tomorrow 4 more motivationYep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0
