Fiscal Fast – 7 days no spending (at all)

Well, the purse stayed shut yesterday and today so that is zero spending since Tues when DD and DS decided that they needed new school shoes. Tomorrow will be a spend day and I need to make a list soon to make sure that nothing gets missed off.

Day Two
Safely through Day One :T
Lunch was entirely home made - soup, bread, liver pate and butter - I even grew the squash for the soup! Tonight it's a repeat of yesterday's chicken korma - only me to feed and I don't mind the same thing 2 days running. Will get slow cooker on soon with a stew for tomorrow.
Just come in from a walk with pup - lots of gardening going on round here and I'm going to join in and plant up some more tomato seeds. Could do with getting in some compost but my vegetable growing spending comes from my grocery budget so that's a no-no. I've read somewhere about sieving and sterilising home made compost so I'll have a go at that - won't need much for a few seeds after all.
Good luck/well done everyone :T"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Hello all,
Thanks for your kind words. Planting potatoes today, therefore NSD. Defrosting the fridge and using the last of bits 'n' pieces before the 'shop' on Monday. Have signed up to various newsletters for supermarkets and will be making use of the voucher for 6 euros off a spend of 40 euros. Catzine, shall definitely keep any future orange peel to make the cleaner. Jam Crumblie is a hit here either as a pud or for a snack!
Have a good weekend all

Just had to buy some cream for coffee. £2 spend should last a week. Quite happy with that. Total spends for this week so far £3-50 from £10 budget.
Off to do some more decluttering - then homemade chinese chicken and noodles/peppers.
Catzine - thanks for the orange peel tip.0 -
Evening all and hello to all the newcomers. I've been enjoying keeping up with everyone's posts even though I've not posted for a couple of days.
Things have been going according to plan apart from a quick sprint into a supermarket yesterday. OH phoned me and asked me to pick up a couple of bottles of wine to say thanks to a friend for ferrying him about over the last couple of weeks - I was very good and resisted everything except a joint of meat reduced from £7.50 to £2.80 and with the £2 voucher I had I wasn't going to turn down over a kilo of nice meat for 80p!
One thing I'm enjoying at the moment is using up a load of the dried pulses we've had in the cupboard for (literally) years. Today I boiled up some chickpeas which were two years past their BB date. They taste fine and will be used in hummus and chickpea curry over the next couple of days.
I'm currently in slight shock:I went to the GP yesterday for a routine repeat prescription only to be told I have borderline high blood pressure and should "do more exercise and eat more fruit and veg". Given that I have a BMI of 19 and a bit, run at least 15 miles a week and pretty much always eat my five a day I was a bit bemused. I am going to have to give serious thought to reducing salt and cutting down on caffine and alcohol:eek:
On the plus side we were going to go to the garden centre today, but something made me check the cupboards first and we already have pretty much all the veg seed I was planning to get so no spending there and another NSD to add.

All going well on this side of the world, albeit that I have spent most of the day confined to the kitchen, preparing food and meals for today and tomorrow.
Slight panic that I forgot to make the yoghurt I was planning yesterday, with my being consumed by wardrobe dilemmas and preparations for my big night out on the town. :rotfl:So yoghurt is now underway but will be too warm to have for breakfast in the morning.
I did however made big pan of rice pudding this afternoon, to use up a carton of out-of-date UHT milk. It was sitting at the back of the cupboard for emergency purposes and never really planned to be used as I don't particularly like it. Anyway it made a perfectly adequate rice pud, with loads left for tomorrow and a portion siphoned off for breakfast.
Made beef stew and dumplings for dinner and we'll having more of the same tomorrow.Mortgage

Got cream for coffee,I had been trying to stop having this, but ended up relenting and flying to shop 4 some.....But resisted urge to get anything else which is good.
I am finding it really hard today,I am an HS sufferer and am really fed up and am having to use a lot of will power to not go to the shops to get something to cheer myself up (which is silly as it will be short term fix,and having more money and less on credit card would be much better and make me happier long term)...anyhow enough moaning.
Brekkie will be eggs and soldiers soon (still awake at 4am)....well more lunch really, was going to defrost a chicken, but if I do this yues instead will have all the leftovers for meals for work,so lunch may be pasta with a homemade sauce already in freezer. Still have milk left so supper will prob be homemade granola.
Motto.....walk away from the purse.
Todays motto.....hide the purse or give to nxtdoor:)Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

Afternoon all,
Kiwisaver you have got me salivating at the thought of rice pudding for breakfast! I've recently started doing surveys and I've promised myself a yoghurt maker when I've got enough points for an amazon voucher. (Yes I know in theory I could make yoghurt with just a flask, but it never seems to turn out right!)
I'm discovering a great benefit of this fiscal fasting is using up lots of odds and ends. I'm working my way through various dried pulses in the kitched (red dragon pie for tea again tonight) and I'm also using up some freebie toiletries that have been cluttering up my drawers for way too long.
I'm just wondering if I can make it through to Thursday before shopping. I'm getting short of fresh fruit and veg: will have a rummage through the tins to see what can be done!
Right - time to blitz the tomato and lentil soup that has been bubbling away for the last half hour.
Enjoy the rest of Sunday everyone.0
