Hello everyone,
Day one done and dusted without my purse being opened:)
Supper was left-over pork stir-fried instead of lasagne (OH decided there wasn't enough lasagne for two people: so that will be my supper later in the week when he is out), followed by yummy left-over creamy lemon tart (a recipe from an A*da magazine which was brilliant).
Tomorrow's main meal will be spanish omlette (our pet hens are getting nicely back into laying after the winter) with oven chips.
My over-riding feeling at the moment is relief at not having to go into the shops and spend money - but I'm sure the novelty will wear off later in the week. I hope everyone else's fast is going ok.0 -
I'm off the fast at the moment - bought milk and whoopsied lettuce yesterday, and today spent £4.50 on various food bits as will have visitors tomorrow (DD3, DSIL and DGD3). DD is coming over to come with me to my hospital appointment, as I have been instructed to "arrange to have someone to accompany you home". I'll cook lunch for us all, then while we go to the hospital, the other two will find something to do in town. Then I'll cook again later (assuming I'll be up to it).
Unfortunately the rest of the instructions tell me not only to leave out some of my meds, but also to have no tea, coffee or chocolate for 24 hours! Had my last cup of tea after lunch. Ooooh, I could murder a nice cuppa right now!Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!0 -

Went shopping yesterday and have definitely climbed back onto F/fasting I have had some good NSD this month and was shocked at how much food has gone up in the space of just over a week.Meat seems to have become like goldust so a few more veggie meals for me I think.
I spent £16.47 yesterday which probably doesn't sound a lot, but for what I have to show for it it seems miniscule. Not even a bagful, but I have got everything I needed and now can relax for at least another week as I have got bread, milk, fresh veg and some odds and ends for cleaning.I also snaffled a reduced price chicken which will go into my freezer and we will take with us when I go to Dorset at the end of the month I will cook it the day before, and it will do me and my friend for several meals and sandwiches.I have started making up my 'goodie' box with bits from the store cupboards, tins, tea bags coffee etc. which means we don't have to buy much when we get there .We always take flasks and sarnies with us when we go out as she is like me and prefers to spend her cash on things that we enjoy rather than boring food stuff :)I also make up a big tin of cakes and biscuits to take with us and we spend very little on food really once we are at our destination. On the last night we always have a nice meal out as a treat so its balanced up by our sensible budgetting during the week.only 17 more days to go.I think I may only have fresh milk and bread to buy from now on so I am quite please with how April has worked out.Keep up the good work chums

I've been reading this thread with great interest and yesterday watched some of the video's on youtube. I found that he just talked so much good common sense. I especially liked the bit about buying a moderate house and staying there. That's what we have done, we bought a house within our means and have no intention of moving. When we looked at changing our mortage (unfortunately we're with NR) my bank wouldn't give us a new mortage on our house despite a spotless record as the equity ratio is now too small but suggested that they could lend us more than treble what we owe if we sold and bought elsewhere :eek::eek: Should I just send the link to them?I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly

We did go to a dog show on Sunday, had to pay to get in, so money spent there. No spends in the shops since the 7th.
I have stew in the slow cooker for tea tonight, will make the dumplings later, there will be plenty to freeze. Have prepared the veg for vegetable curry to cook and freeze. All of my carrots and some of the potaotes really does need using up. Going to make a big batch of pasnip soup fo the freeze, got the parsnips given to me from another allotment holder.
I have some gammon left over from Monday in the fridge. Will it still be ok to use either today for lunch or will it be ok to slice and freeze? Thankyou in advance.Jan GC £298.62/£300 Feb £298.01/£300 March £331.06/£300 April £69.96/£300

Both options are fine
Well, other than spending on the PO to post ebay parcels yesterday, no money has left my hands. I don't count the PO, either, as that was paid for by the purchasers
I thought I'd need some wholemeal/ granary bread tomorrow - but am going to give it a whirl making some myself. I have a small bag of Doves seeded malt flour (well OOD, but I don;t care) of which I've used about 1/4. I've just put 2/3 of this and 1/3 of strong white flour together - am waiting for my yeast to be activated and then I'll give it a go. Worse case scenario (I hope) is it'll be fit for dunking in soup, if nothing else. Am doing a substitute of things needed on the menu this week for things already here, so I don't forsee a need to spend until the weekend (newspapers, bread, milk, f&v and sandwich stuff will be required then, at the very least) The children all still have plenty of Easter goodies left, so I don't even need to do any baking:)
Planning a cinema trip this weekend - have exchanged clubcard vouchers ready. Will take snacks and drinks with us (as always) - and we still have sweets left from our holiday to Cornwall
ETA: granary bread was yummyAnd I have the same amount of malted grain flour left to make another loaf

Hi all - my visitors have now left and so tomorrow will be my day one on the ff. Felling bloated by all the easter eggs / coffees and lunches out I rejoined SW today so will have to find the £5 a week fee plus fruit an veg but will worry about that next wednesday. I even used the tip and used the voucher frm Reveal (not a magazine I would buy normally) to save me £5 joining feee (£1 for the magazine - saves £5 so £4 up IYKWIM).
True to the ff I have also made two birthday cards for my nephews rather than buying them and have unearthed my vax from the attic to try and clean my carpets post visitors. The machine was relegeated to the attic after it wouldnt suck the water up properly so I am hoping that it will work properly now.44 day challenge
1. Pay £650 off overdraft (£ 288/ £650)
2. Lose 12 lbs (4.5/ 12)
3. Use YNAB everyday (6/44)0 -
Hello, please may I join you all in the frugal fasting?
Expecting an AF order this afternoon, I have been through my stocks and carefully entered most of them onto a spreadsheet. There is too much stuff!
I was getting a bit hysterical when the doorbell went- "you Puddleglum?". There was no marsh wiggle behind me waiting to take responsibility for the two boxes of extra food so I had to own up and sign for it.
It's the 10 step programme for me. Well over 3 months worth of non perishables and that's just the non perishables, I daren't start on the freezer!
I get a veg box delivered weekly and have enough milk etc to last until the weekend so my plan is to go shopping for fresh goods once every 8 days spending £10 on those shops. 8 weeks shopping for the price of 7.
In 2 months time MIL will be coming for her summer visit and if this works out then I will order an organic meat box for her stay as she gets a bit twitchy these days if she does not get enough meat.
I have been lurking on the thread since it started - here goes!:A"A thousand candles can be lit from a single candle without shortening the life of that candle."
I still am Puddleglum - phew!0
