Disconnection fee even though contract ended.

Hi guys, hope this is posted in the right place!

Just a quick question about having to pay a disconnection charge with Virgin. Can't find anything online.

I was getting my internet and land line through Virgin, I phoned them on the last day of the contract to say I was going with Sky and that I didn't need their services and didn't want a new contract.

Is it right that I still have to pay a 24 quid disconnection fee even though the contract was finished? Would I have a leg to stand on if I don't pay it?

Any advice much appreciated. Thanks :)

You have to give notice, you can't quit on the day.

If your Virgin broadband was through the BT tel line then as you have cancelled and not asked for your MAC then there is a disconnection fee that the losing ISP has to pay to BT. They invariably pass this straight on to the consumer.

If it was via fibre then Virgin will have their own disconnection fee.

Also bear in mind that you will probably be billed for a further month's use as that is the normal period of notice required.

  • Thanks so much for the quick replies. I will pay the fee then and count myself lucky I wasn't charged for the extra month! Lesson learnt for next time! :)
