Hi, all great ideas. Here's what we have done in the last couple of years.
Last year, me & my 2 boys baked a bunch of shortbread biscuits for my nan (great nan). For my mum & step MIL we brought 2 plain plates that cost under £1 (I think). We then sat with poster/ acrylic paints and the boys painted the inside of the plate, when finished I painted Happy Mothers day on the rim and left to dry. They were both over the moon with their plates, I suggested that they put some clear varnish over the plate to stp paint coming off (would have done myself but we were pushed for time). They both have these hanging on the wall and love them because so much thought went into it. Also cheaper than going to a proper pottery place.
In 2005 we baked choclate cakes for them covered in icing then put happy mothers day on it. They both enjoyed the cakes very much again as we hadn't just gone to a shop and brought it. :T
However, my mum does sometimes moan that she gets things off the kids now and not me:A

  • Hi guys!

I’ve already found the gift for my Mum and I just wanted to share my gift idea with you.
It is a Turd figurine of Sh*t Hot, just to tell her in a funny way that she’s the best Mum ever!
It’s original (it makes the change from flowers and chocolates), funny and just £8.
You’ve just have to go to http://www.theturds.com/ in the buy online section and in special offers.

    Hope this will help!

    Cheers,

    Pauline

i bought my mums gift in november on offer. her favourite bottle of wine was half price, and i knew she'd really appreciate it as she never likes spending so much on a bottle. I've wrapped it up in cellophane and made a black grosgrain ribbon into a man's tie around it's neck. the tag says 'tall, dark and drink in one go to make any man handsome' she'll like that. I have 2 cards for her, a bought one she'll put on 'show' and one from a photo company with my rabbit and happy mothers day written on it.
  • I'm making my Mother, my step mother and my mother in law jewellery, have had bits and pieces for years so I shouldnt really need anything new.

    I hope :D

I am taking my mum to Chelsea Flower Show at the end of May as she is nuts about that sort of thing. There is a thread on here somewhere on how to get there and get tickets as cheaply as possible. She has done so much for me, I wanted to treat her.

As a mum myself with an aging mum i would imagine that if you don't see your mum all that often then the best pressie would be to spend time with them on that day. I know that time goes so quickly and one day they won't be around and we'll regret not making the time. Gestures mean more than pressies.
Are those shopping bags you're carrying really bags of debt???

  • I dont know what to get my mum for mothers day this year.

    few problems:

-its the day after my boyfriends 21st birthday so I shall be in Lincoln which is 4 hours away. I know this doesnt sound very 'loving', but its a special occasion for him.

-my mums mum (my nan) died only in november after a long illness so i think my mum will find it hard.

-Its her 50th birthday 2 weeks later so I dont want to duplicate pressies.

-i cant cook, do craft, or grow flowers etc...

    HELP!
