Barclays New Cash ISA 3.05%

http://barclays.co.uk/Savings/ISAs/CashISALoyaltyRewardISA/P1242580433210?WT.mc_id=isa

Always around this time of year.
Will use this for 2011/12 and 2012/13's
Plus can offset against offset mortgage, which might be the plan come August.
Plan
1) Get most competitive Lifetime Mortgage (Done)
2) Make healthy savings, spend wisely (Doing)
3) Ensure healthy pension fund - (Doing)
4) Ensure house is nice, suitable, safe, and located - (Done)
5) Keep everyone happy, healthy and entertained (Done, Doing, Going to do)

Transfers-in from another ISA are not allowed.

Not the best rate you can get, either.

Not sure the "can offset against mortgage" is a convincing selling point - you still only get 3.05% which isn't the market-topping rate.

I would probably wait with a decision for a few more days to see what other offers come on the market.

  • how come first direct don't let you offset? clearly if Barclays do, it is not some legal requirement, it is just first direct being useless.

I've just subscribed to this too as an ISA virgin. Make sure that you go into your Mortgage account to link this as off-set as it isn't automatically applied.

As poor as Santander are with their customer service, the gap is too much to ignore & i'll be opting for Santander at the moment.

I will have to look at both Santander and Barclays. I said 2012/13 was the year I would check other banks than Barclays with whom I have my current account.

For my current circumstances where I'm earning up to the allowance over the 12 months rather than putting all £5340 in one go and leaving it there, it's been the flexible choice as they pay interest monthly which lets you divide the allowance by 12 and try to reach that figure every month to stay on track. A big wedge at the start of the year is too hard to find if the ISA year starts at the same time as Council Tax.

If I stick with Barclays then it's set up with a few clicks rather than faffing about with paperwork though, as they know you already. I won't do anything until 6th April, whatever I decide.
