Will Windows 8 be good - not what I have seen (mind you I don't have a touch screen coffee table)

If you need a new lappy buy one without an operating system load it with Linux and try it, and at the same time download the W8 trial and set up a dual boot system (you will have to reload Linux after Windows)
Then in September you will come back here and say "What is the cheapest place to buy Windows 7?" answer will be probably everywhere that is cheaper than 8
