new laptop - buy now or wait for 8

as in the title box, should I buy a new laptop now, I can muddle through without one for a couple of months, or just buy a win7 and update when the new os arrives but of course this will probably mean spending approx another £100

thoughts please people

Spec wise, it's a _great_ time to be buying a new lappie... and if it were me, I would grab one now after hearing friends opinions of Win8...

I have a mate who waits forever for that next new laptop deal. The result is that after 18 months he still doesn't have it and likely never will. It's a simple fact that whatever laptop you buy today will be outdated tomorrow if you just keep looking at the ever rising list of specifications on offer.

My 4 year old laptop runs Windows 7 and online streaming of live TV, can do Word documents and everything with no issues. It might not be a sprint winner but it can certainly do the marathon with no problems.

You only live once, bite the bullet and buy now and to hell with the consequences I say! :)

XP and Windows 7 - very good :)

vista and Windows 8 - very bad :(

as pointed out earlier, it's a good time to buy. Under £300 will get you a lappy that, if physically looked after, should last for 5-10 yrs without too much bother...hell, I ain't got anything that's under 5 years old right now with no signs of packing up ;)

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

There is a consumer preview out which you can download and try.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/consumer-preview

I don't mind change but I think Windows 8 might have gone too far.

That's a half written beta release, which is actually better than windows 7 was at the same stage in developement

It still gives you a good idea what Windows 8 will be like. Better in what way? Less bugs?

Im talking UI. Don't like it at all.
