Godparents are there to support and guide the child in their Christian life. so in that respect i think a Bible or prayer book is a suitable gift. I do not think cost should come into it.
when our daughters got christened we had gifts such as photoframes, money boxes, personalised cushions and blankets, and some lovely wall art from here

If being a godparent i would get a bible
Also highly agree with charm bracelet as you can add to it on special occaisns making it a unique gift:A VK :A0 -
You might want to get the newspaper of the day and seal it for preservation. When your godchild will have her own children people will be surprised about the archaic concept of printed newspaper.0

i had planned on getting a friends daughter a radley bag as an investment piece, but she changed her mind on who was to be godparent so I got her a silver necklace and earring set for when she is an adult.0

I second that a christening should be about God really, not money. I bought this book recently for a relative's christening, with the thought that the most valuable thing I can give is something fun to strengthen his relationship with God as he grows up.

Myself and my partner were made godparents to our niece earlier this year. We bought her a silver cross necklace in a silver box engraved with her full christened name and the date and place of her christening."More people would learn from their mistakes if they weren't so busy denying them." - Harold J.
