Christening Gift Ideas

I have been asked to be Godmother to my friends baby, which I am thrilled about.

I want to get something which will increase in value over the years which she will appreciate when she is older, but with Gold prices being so high I'm not sure a gold chain (which is what I was thinking of getting) will be the best thing.

Have any of you lot got any ideas what would be a good christening gift?

Thanks

When I was asked to be godmother, I bought a gold link bracelet, and each year on my goddaughter's birthday I give her a charm for it. Individually the cost is not too great, but it means that she will have something of significant value ( as well, hopefully, as sentimental value) when she is grown up

    I've been Money Tipped!
Why does it need to increase in value? Sentimental value and memories shouldn't be measured in money!

You could start by buying a small silver charm bracelet with a cross charm - and then add one each year on her birthday.

    Edited to say SNAP!

You could consider a set of books - maybe Beatrix Potter, or a Bible. My children still have their Christening Bibles and as they received children's versions, they have been used well over the years.

I love trees - and several times know people who have bought plum trees as gifts at christenings.

    hi

the charm braclet idea is a good one and something that i am doing for my niece.

another suggestion might be a good bottle of port, just make sure it doesn't get drunk

Something like a steiff teddybear, some of those don't go down in value.

Antique silver. A baby's rattle, spoons, check out reputable silver dealer, antiques centres, or auction houses.

First edition nursery/children's book of some sort. They start from less than £50, up to a lot! There are some well known names for a couple of hundred. Not sure how much you want to spend.

I think the peter rabbit set is a good idea.

My dad bought my niece and nephew a gold sovereign coin for thier Christening.

My niece was also given a beatrix potter library and that was a lovely gift.

I like the charm bracelet idea too. x

Its really difficult to predict what will increase in value over the years...and even if you do manage to give a gift that appreciates in value,do you really want your god daughter to sell it?

Things that you could think about
    A necklace

A wooden keepsake box to store her christening cards in

A china breakfast set...I was given one as a christening gift and still have it...not worth that much in financial terms but the fact that it was given by my god mother who is sadly no longer here makes it priceless to me!

My other godmother gave me a silver photo frame...and it now holds the first picture of my son after he was born

an ornament or paperweight or even something like a fountain pen for later life

    a coin set

you could open a savings account for her and deposit money at key intervals in her life...or each year on the anniversary of her christening to show you haven't forgotten the day

if you are creative what about a cross stitch picture or looking at making something like a patchwork quit...I'm told they are quite easy to make and once you get going quite addictive!

If you are looking at a complete set of book like BP or similar...check the book people...they sometimes run offers anfd the sets are very heavily discounted in price
frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

    2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend

Without wanting to be negative, I don't really think that the idea of something increasing in financial value is a very appropriate for a baptismal gift. No harm if it just happens to but making it the main reason for your choice is not really the idea.

I bought my god daughters Tiffany silver key rings! They might not increase in value but they might like them when they are older!
