Oops made a boob when applying for a job.

I spent a few days resreaching one of my interviews. How many sites they had, what else was in the groups portfolio, who owned them, how long they had been going, the recent merger with another USA group, the rebranding of the group, the new executive chef they had just taken on, the new company name that was going to be launched later in the year etc.
I was asked what I knew about them at the interview and I told them all this to which they were very impressed and said you'd be suprised that we see a lot of people who know nothing.
I do that too but it doesn't take me a few days and they are always impressed I know about the company.
It is like exams, I went to college and had to do a lot of exams I always did better on those I revised the day before for an hour or so.
The one I failed was one I revised for a week, retook it 6 months later with an hours reading through the book and passed with 100%0 -
then you will have no problem getting this job - good luckI do that too but it doesn't take me a few days and they are always impressed I know about the company.

Would that put them off ?
That is what I'm thinking, I keep a log of jobs I apply for which includes salary and hours so god knows what I was thinking.
Wondering if I should bluff it and explain I knew the start time but hoped for negotiation.0 -

It depends on the way you work, some people need to prepare for things ages before, do things a bit at a time OR you can be a last minute person and thrive on the stress! I think it also depends on the type of job e.g. a one of interview in a very familiar role where you have a lot of experience with interviews OR a series of interviews for something you have never done?
OP situation sounds as if they know what they are doing and I wouldn't mention the travelling thing until interview stage anyway, sounds a bit presumptious to me AND a perfect "do you have any questions about the job etc" question! OP: as for the situation it depends but I would reckon if you were their first choice it wouldn't be a problem at all
Edit: And I reckon you should get off here, carry on prepping and stop justifying what you are doing to people who aren't really helping
I always find if I do too much prep I end up forgetting things, when I do dressage tests I practice once before the comp.
I may practice the different movements but not following the test I'll incorporate it into general schooling.0 -

No problem in saying is it negotiable? Really want the job, having checked all available transport bus however would arrive at 8.50am etc. It just depends on how you want to phrase it and you do not have to say you made a mistake
I really don't think it's that big a deal and I've done it before (alas I got the job but didn't take it) and my boyfriend went for a full time job, got to interview and said 'oh I'm doing an MA by the way, can I have Wednesday off and make up hours through the week' and he got that job! There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well...0 -
I didn't get it due to the transport issues as their lines open from 830am but were glad I attended the interview and would like to keep my details and contact me if another position becomes available with a later start time (they have a couple of mums who work school hours)0

I went for a job in Nationwide (WAY beyond my league but hey ho I was on the dole) and ended up working as a cashier after. They like me so much they gave me a position in another branch! Well done and fingers crossed for a call one day
