Halifax and Barclays PPI reclaim trouble

Am having real trouble claiming money ack from both Barclays and Halifax.

The loan with Barclays was from 2001 and I just got a straight no as it was before they had signed up to some agreement.

Halifax agreed to pay me £4300. They sent me a cheque for £1600 and that's been it. It's been 2 months now since I had the £1600 and every time I ring up I keep getting fobbed off with excuses that it's being escalated and they are very sorry it's taking this long.

I'm fed up now as I don't know what else I can do. I have it in writing they have agreed £4300 they tell me that's what I'm owed on the phone but still no money b

I don't know what else I can do.

Barclay's can be difficult at the best of time, not too sure what you can do with it being that long ago, some of the more experienced Barclay's campaigners may be on later to advise.
Halifax you just have to sit it out. You have the letter saying they owe you so hang on to the belief they will honour it at some point ;)
Sorry can't be more positive :o

I'm having similar problems with Halifax not been much over the month yet but the response when I phone chasing the payment is just pathetic. They basically just said well go to the ombudsman then. Going to put a complaint in writing as I dont believe my complaint will be passed on in any way.

  • Was your Halifax loan still active? Maybe they cleared it off and sent you the difference in a cheque?
  • No it wasn't active it was from 2004.

They have confirmed that I'm owed £4300 but don't know why I've been paid £1600.

I'm getting to the stage I need to complain as I'm sure they are dragging it out on purpose.

Barclays seem to have a habit of doing this when they know that, because they were a member of the Banking Ombudsman scheme, FOS has jurisdiction. In other words they seem to be deliberately misleading complainants about their rights.

You can report this to consumer.queries@fsa.gov.uk if you wish.

However, that is a public interest issue because the FSA does not get involved in individual cases. It may, though force Barclays to reopen complaints rejected on those grounds if it gets a large number of reports.

As far as your own case is concerned, the Financial Ombudsman Service will almost certainly consider it. Call 0800 023 4567 from a landline or 0300 123 9 123 and they will help.

The service is free for complainants although there is, of course, no guarantee that your complaint will be upheld.
  • Hi, Do you mind if I ask what reason you gave when making your claim for Halifax PPI?

So the monthly payment going through on your bank statement didnt give it away? or the policy documents sent when you took the mortgage out? Or the application you completed to get MPPI?

Loans, yes, there is the potential for it to be hidden. However, MPPI cannot be hidden. You would expect the MPPI complaint to be an easy rejection by them if they want to if its your only reason for complaint.

Why not focus Halifax's mind with a letter before action. This will state that you are intending to take them to the small claims court, the other route available instead of the FOS. This should get them moving as they have told you that they owe you the money and it's pretty much an open and shut case.

I'm not sure the small claims court would take it. As it is a goodwill payment and if they say they made an error in calculation, I don't think a Judge would award it.
