PPI Claim Companies - which one?

Hi All

Yes I know you will all say... do it yourself, get the letter templates and write to the lender etc etc etc..

But ... Apart from one recent Mortgage with Nat Wide I just can't remember or have the paperwork for the other loans and cards I have had in the last 15 years let alone 6. Yes I can remember them such as my 4 year spell self employed etc but to me it would all be a lot simpler (especialy with two young girls at home) to just ask a company to search for all of my ppi loans and details as far back as they can. ( however they do this, and then request paperwork etc.)

However ... Who?

The phone rings and its another company ... err no way am I dealing with someone over a phone and signing my credit report over to them.

I walk around my local town and a "concession" is setup in our shopping center outside a starbucks. Is this company the genuine article?

I search MSE and can't find anything but people saying stay clear of these devils!

I have spoken to the above company in the shopping mall, they offer a 25% + VAT charge, normal no win no fee terms. I have read their terms but my inner self is still saying 60/40 no way.

My question is ... who is the best? Is there any Company names on this forum/website recommending PPI Claim successes?

Any advice on Genuine companies, especialy ones in the Norfolk Area would be great. Someone to maybe visit and talk to please?

Many thanks ....

I await you replies ...

    Hi TheRookie,
No one on this site will recommend a claims company. They can not get your account details for you. YOU HAVE TO DO IT. So why then go and hand it all over for them to just simply post it and keep possibly thousands off you for the privilege!!!!!!!!

Do a free online credit check with Experian or such like and see if account numbers come up (may only be last 4 digits) but then you can approach those banks that do come up and ask a simple question. Was I paying PPI?
It's really not difficult no matter how busy you are. A small amount of effort now could be worth thousands for you and your family. You will get all the help you need here for 0% once you have some account numbers to go on ;)

This post says exactly what I wanted to, so hope it's ok to post on it? :).
I basically have no idea if I have been paying PPI at some point in the past. I have been a bit of a mortgage tart and continually switched to best deals every couple of years an so on. I never thought to keep a record of who I was with etc.... and can't for the life of me think of where to begin.
I have look on creditexpert.co.uk due to the advice on this thread, to see where this takes me. However, I am pausing at the point where it is asking for my card details!.
Can anyone please confirm that this site is legit, so I can proceed?
    What will happen next ....?

    Thanks!

I have never personally used a credit check website but if they are asking for payment, get out. You should be able to sign up to a free 30 day trial on one of them ;)

Well, they don't want payment, just the details to verify identity during the 30 day trial and then I would have to cancel. Still don't like putting my details down, but maybe sounds ok?
    Thanks,

So, bottom line is that you are saying that you are unable to look at your current account statement to see if MPPI is being paid out?

Why cant you look at your bank statement?
What makes you think that having MPPI is a mis-sale?

Ok, Ok, Ok calm down please ....

I will obtain my Experian Credit report and look at it for loans, Mortgages I have had that may shown on the report.

If I had a Northern Rock Mortgage over 15 years ago is this still worth sending a letter or does a 6 year limit apply as well?

Also how far back does the experian report go back.

I understand that these PPi companies can be a nightmare just was asking for a good recommended one incase I need to use it for the Northern Rock 1997 mortgage?

I take it that car loans from 2001 are past the 6 year limit as well? or is it still worth sending a letter to Ford Credit?

All advise is recommended, thanks for your help so far.

    Cheers All.

I think the only reason there is a 6 year limit is some banks claim they don't hold info longer than that.
If you have account details, it's still worth having a go.

There is no point using a claims company as the first thing they will ask you to do is provide them with details of the accounts you want them to investigate.
If you have to dig this info out yourself, why bother paying them to do the easy bit, when you've already done the hard work?

If you really think it's too much trouble, I would at least send off the FOS questionnaire yourself and only involve a claims company if you need to challenge the decision later.

Are you saying you cannot even remember who you have had mortgages with?

Depends on whether you used a broker or not. Regulation didnt start until 2005 and most brokers became regulated in 2005.

A claims company has no way around regulations.

  • Hi All

Having read a lot and spending two days looking through paper work I have found the following:

    Nationwide PPI
HSBC Life policy when I was Self employed
    Old Northern Rock Mortgage PPI

Bottom two are very hard to find details as I only have bank statements but no details of Account number will have to call bank to ask.

No details of NR terms either but will look into it more.

    Thanks to you all.

    Two more questions:
    1. When filling out the Word template claim form are there any words or phrases I should not put?

    2. Do you add any cover letters with the claim form?

Many thanks to all who have replied to this.
