Just got to speak to someone at DWP.

My friend is already on income-related ESA and will get exactly the same amount of money that she does now. She is VERY relieved.

Thinking about this...if they have sent her a letter and she is already on income-related ESA, why did they bother? Imagine if they've sent this letter to everyone in the country who is already on income-related ESA and who has no other income? The money that could have been saved sending the letter out just to those the change is applicable to would surely have been exceptional. And the letters are causing alarm to claimants whom the change has no effect on.

Anyway, I hope this helps some of you.

Lol, I didn't get any letters or forms on changeover
  • I knew about the 365 day rule but nobody from the DWP contacted me to tell me whether or not i would be affected. I emailed them over 3 weeks ago and have yet to receive a reply to my query. Anyway today i got a letter saying that i am being swapped over to income-based ESA. I don't think the DWP handled this terribly well as there are a lot of worried people with a lack of information coming their way.

Hi all - my husband was reassessed for ESA (contrbution based) in March following an appeal. The decision maker agreed that he was still unfit for work and reinstated the benefit to be reviewed in August 12. Yesterday he received a letter saying his benefit would stop due to the 365 day rule and he won't get anything. I work full time so I don' t think we qualify for income related ESA. Is there anything we can do? I am worried sick as is my husband

How does she get the extra money because she's severely disabled but in WRAG?

She's getting HRC of DLA which is alternative qualification for Enhanced Dis Premium (Disability income guarantee)... and HRC (or MRC) of DLA which is qualification for severe dis premium.

You need to check your eligibility for other benefits, such as working tax benefit etc. People here speak highly of the 'turn 2 us' website

How do you know if you're on contribution based or income related IB? My OH has been on IB for about 17 years, when he first became unable to work it was called Invalidity Benefit and I seem to remember that it was based on his national insurance contributions for the tax year beforehand?

It then changed to Incapacity Benefit and he gets it topped up with income support. Will he still be on contribution based or will it be income related now? It doesn't say on any of the letters we get.

All IB transfers will be CB, as will SDA transfers. I am on SDA, the old allowance where you were deemed 80 percent or more disabled. I shall be appealing if I am not in support group because I fit three possibly four of the criteria.

I won't appeal on the 12th month basis as I would be moved to IR anyway.

I haven't seen it yet (probably missed it mind), but here is a link to the changeover page on the DWP website:

    http://www.dwp.gov.uk/adviser/updates/proposed-changes-to-contribution/

Essentially, if you have been claiming CB ESA for at least 365 days, then you should receive a phone call soon to ask if you want to be assessed for IR ESA.

The page was updated on the 1st March, so if this info has been posted before, then I do apologise. It may even have been updated since it was last posted here, I don't know!

Hope it helps someone out :)

Why, oh why, have DWP changed their minds and decided not to bother phoning people up. Surely just a two minute look at this board will show that the changes have left so many people wondering what is going on.

Good job there isn't an minister in charge of the DWP who is really really important and Cameron's champion on getting shot of all benefits. They've made a complete mess of this changeover, it may well need to have happened, but they've royally screwed it up.

I hope anyone at DWP who had a chance to make things right can sleep well tonight, because so many on this board won't be.
