Awesome thanks op.http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cornucopia-Fruit-Raspberry-Merlot-Bottles/dp/B001ELJKGE/ref=pd_sim_grocery_1
Good price if you want this item. You do need some other bits if your a beginner like Bottles, hydrometer etc. The review on the other link is very helpful about how to tweak the wine.

Think on the top box the fruit wine it takes 4 weeks.

One of my orders arrived today, the Raspberry Merlot! Hubby is impressed kit comes with 30 corks, bottle labels and shrink bottle top covers. It does drinkable in about 4 weeks on but we've done some 7 day ones that took longer to finish fermenting so don't take that as a given have to see how it goes. Brilliant price hope it tastes good too but we haven't been disappointed in any of the kits we've tried! Thank you again Clairbel!

Wilkos do a 7 day Merlot kit for about £20, perfectly quaffable, budget for about 4 1/2 bags of sugar with these kits, scrounge the wine bottles, Wilkos do push in stoppers good enough, don't faff about with corks and cork machines, invest in a 5 gallon plastic wine fermenter, one hole, one air lock, one heater.0

So- as a total newbie to this (kids buying it for me for Mothers Day) what is the bare minimum outlay I need to spend to get up and running? Any help would be appreciated- I've read the thread but need to make a comprehensive shopping list before I head out to Wilkos! Ooh- I am excited now at the thought of all that lovely wine!lovin' this site!

So do you just bottle the wine straight from the fermenter instead of faffing about with demijohns etc? Bit of a newbie at this so sorry if this is a silly question.
TIA!
PS Is this the sort of thing you are talking about?

Hi Murie
We spent about £35 when we first bought all of our equipment but we bought glass bottles for the first kit (then I realised it was cheaper to reuse bottles from shop bought wine and starting asking my family to save empty bottles for me!).
Buying one of those big kits above you'll probably need:
Fermenting barrel
Steriliser - to sterilise the barrel and bottles
A siphon to get the wine from the barrel to the bottle without disturbing the sediment in the bottom
Corks for the bottles - we bought wilkos plastic ones as they can be washed and reused (although they are included in the big kit above so you wouldnt need them)
Looking at wilkos it comes to approx £13. We also bought a hydrometer but never used it and we bought a bottle brush from willkos which was £2 but I've since been told you can just buy baby bottle brushes from pound shops and use them. We didn't bother with heaters or anything like that either, just stood the wine in front of a radiator and that worked fine.
Hope this helps, I haven't been making wine very long so I'm no expert but the 4 kits I have made have all turned out fine and I love doing it now.
