Can someone explain to me where the "lie" come in.

Is the OP just complaining that they are uncompetitve?
Or have they made a claim about something (like price matching) that they are not fulfilling.

If they are merely uncompetitive then I don't think this constitues a "lie".

I thought it was clear, just to emphasize when I got my renewal it came with a leaflet, the wording goes like this "Some insurers claim to offer you the lowest price Saga guarantees it. If you receive a lower quote for like to like cover, well beat it" All under the heading "Price Guarantee" In the small print it says "We will beat the alternative quote by at least £1".

The lie bit is because they did not even bother just said no.
All I wanted was to get Saga to get close to my lowest and I would have stayed with them its easier that way.

    I thought it was clear,

Don't know whether I'm going blind or whether a post has been deleted but I can't see any previous discussion of the leaflet (maybe it's me).

I agree that this is wrong.
You could write the the appropriate authorities and complain (for example the Advertising standards authority).

Thanks for letting people know about it.
  • I never mentioned the leaflet just Saga price challenge, like they promise to beat like for like quotes. It must be me because Lloyds TSB promised the same a few years ago and as I bank with them I thought I would give them ago same result they could not beat the quote, I think they promised a £100 if they couldnt. I just move on. Its big business they bank (pun) on no one reporting them, most dont.

I use Saga because it is the only co. I know of who give unlimited European cover and , as I have a house in Spain, this is very important to me. When I got my renewal quote I got an alternative, which did not contain the european cover, that bettered it by over £100. I asked saga for the price guarantee and I was told that they coudn't do it. I asked to speak to a manager and after a quick chat with her, it was done. At no time was the European cover mentioned as they consider it only as an extra

We have our buildings & contents with Saga at the last renewal I had a quote for £197, Saga wanted £370 when I phoned them and told them they matched the lowere quote so I had it for almost half of what they originally quoted. If they won't do the same this year I will cancel and take the lower quote out.

Saga were over £400 dearer for my wife's car insurance quote. She was told when she got her renewal notice they would beat it by £10! I told her to forget it as she would probably have a load of hassle getting a decent renewal quote next year.

I filled in a Saga form to obtain a car insurance quote, but then noticed a statement indicating that if you use your car to commute to a place of work they are unable to quote, which seems a bit stupid to me. I am sure that plenty of Saga magazine readers still work and have to travel to work, so I just threw it away.
