transferring sky to parents home before 12 months contract finished

Hi All!

Currently, I am at university, having taken out the Sky phone, broadband and TV package with Sky Sports, ESPN and HD. The contract itself only started in mid September but I will be moving out by 30th June. I would be moving back with the parents for a few months after.

Would I be able to tell Sky that I have moved house to my parents house and take the subscription over to their house? I am looking to save paying the whole subscription for a property I am no longer living in.

There are a few points however of note:
1) Parents already have BT phone and virgin media broadband which I don't really want to change.
2) A sky dish with only one cable is already present and working on a another sky HD box (I understand that I will not be able to record and watch already).

So some questions are:
1) is it possible to move the subscription before the full 12 months?
2) is it possible to move the subscription without any changes to the phone and Broadband? It would be cool to use the TV package in parents house but without changing what they already have.
3) should i merely try and just reduce the package down as much as possible and wait for it to run out and cancel then?
4) is there any other suggestions of what course of action i should take?

I hope that it all makes sense, and that there is a good reasonable solution so that I can either save money, or enjoy my sky package that i am paying for.

Many thanks in advance,

ntman

The best thing you can do is ring Sky, they are the only ones who can say what they will do for you.

Expect nothing so that if they do do anything, it'll be a bonus.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Moving it will I think start you on a new 12m contract. You can only move the TV if the other services are to be left as before. So you'd have to carry the phone and broadband to the end of the minimum term and pay accordingly.
Not clear whether your parents currently have a Sky sub or are using Freesat From Sky?
But when you took on the contract in Sept you must have already been aware that you would be moving out in June at the end of the academic year?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • sky have a policy of not allowing phone, broadband and talk packages to be left in an empty property, so if you cannot move services they may cancel that, you are definately in contract for TV so if you cannot move to your parents property (wasn't clear if they have TV package or FREESAT), the free home move could include additional cabling required for Sky+ if you cannot move the service, cut the package down to the minimum for the remainder of your contract (£20 per month for entertainment package), like previous post, should discuss this with sky

Moving house isn't a problem even in the 1st twelve months, they can move stuff.

You can cancel stuff before the end of the 12 months but expect to pay the remainder of your contract - 6 months left?

The sky card will work in any box, just the movies and sports don't work away from the registered box.

If your parents might want sky+ then if you ask sky nicely and give them a little 'push' they might update the dish and do the extra wiring.

Hi everyone, thanks for the responses.

Just to be clear, obviously I had known that I would be moving out, and we would be willing to pay the remaining, but if there is any way of reducing it or making a better use of it, that would be nice. Currently my parents do not have any sky subscriptions, they are merely using the sky box as free to view.

It would just be good to be able to continue using the TV extras that are being paid for at my parents house or to get rid without the high price for a service that will be unused. The phone and broadband i don't really want.

Thanks for the advice, and I will contact Sky nearer the time. Thanks for everyone's input and insights.
