Size 6 tops/vests

Really struggling to find nice tops (preferably sleeveless or capped sleeves) or vest tops that fit me. Used to buy from H&M but their sizes have gone weird.

I'm a size 6 on top and most stores class this as petite, but I must have a long body as they're all too short. Also, having a trouble with arm holes - shops think about the width and length when doing small sizes, but forget that the size of the arm holes should be smaller! Plus, necklines are a struggle too - most are far too low.

Here's where I've tried:

H&M, Topshop, Primark (hit and miss, some fit most don't), Next, River Island, Dorothy Perkins, Oasis, most supermarkets, New Look.

Don't really want to be paying too much for vest tops - less than £10 if possible.

Does anyone have any ideas? Online stores would be best.
Thanks.

I was just going to suggest Primark - their "secret support" vests are about £2-£3 and are really nice fit. I buy a size 8 but I think they do a 6 too. They're fairly long in the body too.
    Tesco's also do a size 6.

Not sure about any online stores, sorry!

I saw those yesterday and thought they looked short, but I will try one -thanks.

I've never yet found anything to fit me in Tesco - dresses, shorts, skirts ... nothing lol.

    Oh to be a size 10/12 :)

M&S have some very tight under/outter wear which could be worth a look, its the stuff designed to offer support so will be in the underware section, some of it can easily be worn as outter wear.

I'm not sure how the sizes hold up now but when I was a size 6-8 Topshop had sizes which fitted me perfectly.

If your properly petite (ie not tall) Uniqlo may also be worth looking at as they offer a decent standard but are always quite short on the body, I think its because they are a Japanese based brand.

Zara and Mango also used to have size 6-8 which fitted quite well but not been inside either store for about 3 years so can't comment on how things are now.

If your into sports of fitness at all maybe try Nike and Adidas which have (in the own brand stores at least) some really cute things, not so easy on the wallet but the clothes do look good. They can fit smaller sizes well.
  • Tried lots from M&S but they don't fit, but I do keep trying.

I'm not tall (5'4'' ish), but have a long body, so usually tops feel small - I like them to feel fitted too and there's a trend now to wear baggy tops.

Haven't looked at Mango for a while, so I'll try again. Can never really find anything I like in Zara.

Will also try sports shops :)

I'd rather be bigger, it's easier to find clothes. There's tons of catalogues or online places that stock clothes for larger women - nothing for us little ones though :(

I find a lot of people tell me that lots of high street stores stock size 6's, and yes most do these days but - they only get a limited amount in small sizes (so unless you go just after stock has come in you miss out) and the cut of the clothes tends not to flatter a small frame (like my problem with huge arm holes)

On the subject of not getting size 6 trousers past your ankles ... I bought size 6 skinny jeans in Primark at the end of last year, lovely bright green ones, but they wouldn't go over my heels! :rotfl:There must've been something wrong with the cut as they were absolutely tiny at the heel.

costco vest tops are nice, i'm 5'2 but also long in the body (with annoying stumpy legs - thanks dad) and these are the best i've found for length. I'm not sure if they go down to a six though, will look next time i'm in there x

Oh and Boden might be worth a look, quite expensive (often do offers though) but good quality.
  • Thanks mum26! Didn't know Costco sold clothes :)

was it recently you tried New Look? They do have some longer tops in there now, even if they don't have them instore you could try online?

I sympathise with you, I take a Sz6 top but really struggle finding vest tops - I find some of them (like the stretch ones in Primark) too clingy, and I agree with you about wierd things going on with the arm holes in some tops. Personally (and i know you said you tried) I like the 100% cotton tops in H&M from the Divided range - they are fitted without being overly clingy. They are £3.99 and I think they do some in a longer length (which my friend buys as she's tall) The Divided range use the European sizes, so you'll be looking for a 32.

    best of luck x
