Just as long as it's get me across the channel and is seaworthy, that's fine by me. I was put on the old Pride of Calais on 21 April, and although old, wasn't that bad
Although the Pride of Canterbury was looking a bit jagged. The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0 -

What for a day trip?? Just had a look because I was curious and for a random date next week £35?
(I did wonder because if I go again later this year how much it will be if I book nearer the date)The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0 -

P&O, Dover/Calais, is currently only £49 for a five-day return, next week!Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance

Just got in from a day trip with DFDS, £19 at the moment although the B/H weekend is excluded. You can book up until 11p.m. the night before travel, leave it later and it'll cost you £20 more.
If the prices were the same I would stick with P&O, as Braddersowl said their new ferries are 1st class but it's a 90 min crossing not a 2 week cruise so not sure if that is too important. P&Os timetable is much better, DFDS 3 crossings back between 6-11p.m. P&O has 6. Shop very small and limited selection compared to P&O, bar and food prices similar. They also seemed a bit disorganised at loading, maybe still learning or maybe the mainly French crews attitude.
As I said same price P&O would win it for me all day but as they wanted £35 compared to £19, DFDS won this time.0 -
Thanks for the update
The main reason I use P&O is because of the regular crossings which is handy.
I think I need another daytrip to France, Le Touquet is callingThe Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0 -

You can do a next day return with DFDS at the moment for £25, maybe stop over in one of the many budget hotel rooms around Calais or Boulogne, not sure that very cheap and Le Touquet is possible.
DFDS does have a variety of card charges, I used paypal which is free, £1 for debit cards and £4 for credit cards.
This site is very good for day trip tips, cheap ferry offers, hotel chains and general info. Day tripper.0 -
Thanks for that, I haven't stayed over the other side for some time, we tend to do day trips as we are not too far from the channel Ports, less than an hour to get to Dover. Although might have to consider it, I've never really been over when it's hot and stayed over
We have so far been to Berck, Bethune, Boulogne, Montreil, Gravelines, Calais, Hazebrocke and St Omer (plus Brugge), so far
