gas central heating or Electrical heaters???

Hi guys

I have gas central heating in my house. 8 radiators total in the house.

1) Would it be more cost efficient to turn some of the radiators off? (the rooms that don't require it' ) or does it cost the same if we leave them all on? And what is the usual cost to use it on minimum power? lets say like 10 or 15 (as the markers show)?

2) would it cost more to use central heating around the house at low for a few hours or having 2 electical heaters in different rooms for a few hours?

3) What are the best decent and economical electric heaters?

thanks for any help

Yes, turns off the rads not required. Less heat output = less gas burned.
All electric heaters are exactly the same efficiency (100%) and cost the same to run for the same rated output. So just buy the cheapest.
Remember that electric heating on standard rate is about 3 times more than gas per kWh.

Electric heaters may have the same efficiency and running cost, but you have to choose the type most suitable for your use. Such as considering do you want to warm a person largely remaining in one place, or provide background heat to the room. The same electric bar heater will cost the same to run, but would you point it at the wall, or at the area where you are sitting?
An electric heater will give out the same amount of energy in heat into the room as it consumes. A gas boiler will not, as it won't be 100% efficient and it has to provide hot water, which is then pumped around the house before reaching the room you are trying to heat. But then the gas it uses is a lot cheaper per kWh than the same amount of energy in electricity.

Personally, I use a 2KW fan heater on particularly cold days to warm the room I spend most of the day in and have the central heating switched off. The rest of the house is cold, but not unbearable and it saves money!

However someone could switch off the radiators in all the rooms not in use, and save even more money by using CH.

Could do, but when OH and DD get home and want the house heating, I'd have to go round and switch them all on again. Easier to have the central heating on a timer which switches it off during the day and I switch on my little heater if I need it - haven't used it once this winter, did get a bit chilly in the cold snap though! :)
