Cheap weekend away - Italy - suggestions?

  • Well I have booked the flights to Milan (Malpensa) via Easyjet from Gatwick - just £96 for both of us return.

I have also booked the massively overpriced 4* Hotel Dei Cavalieri (£551) and submitted a claim as DIYTravel.co.uk have it for £236 for the same nights.

    Thanks GlennTheBaker! :T

I called EasyHotel and they said to submit a claim as long as the hotel room / dates etc were the same, which I know they are as I checked DIYHotel just before I booked with EasyHotel. I also kept a screenshot just in case of any queries.

Did this all a few minutes ago. Am eagerly awaiting EasyHotel response - slightly panicked at having spent £550 on 3 nights hotel that I can't afford if I don't get it back :p x

You also need to think if you can afford the environmnetal cost of going all this way for just 3 nights!
  • Yes, I have offset it against the stress cost of staying here and not celebrating my husbands 35th in a sunny Italian climate.

  • Milan is good and like most European cities it's cheaper then the UK, shopping is very good and plenty of cheaper places too as well as plenty of designer places! When I went stayed at the Hotel Roxy, which was clean, basic and well located, worked out quite cheap considering for B&B. I would recommend making the trip to Como as well, short train journey but Lake Como is beautiful, worth taking the tram up to the top as well. I'd make a trip to OK Pizza as well, cheap and tasty and not far from the hotel. HTH.
2p off is still 2p off!
  • Was just going to say the Roxy works out at £173 via expedia but noticed you've already booked your hotel.

You flight prices seem very reasonable too.

  • Thanks fatboyonadiet - def would *love* to see Como - I am a romantic at heart! Will be following your recommendation for that one for sure - no idea what restaurants are near the hotel though... and if EasyHotel don't refund my money i will cancel that £551 hotel (at a fee of £15) and book another hotel - perhaps the one you mentioned - the next 10 days or so will tell!

  • Lake Como is beautiful, but very busy, the queue for the cable car/tram thing was a little disheartening, maybe try and get there early. There is also restaurants at the top but they seemed to be a bit expensive so we just opted for MacDs in the town centre :D
2p off is still 2p off!
  • Never had an Italian McD's before - always open to new gourmet experiences :D:p

I am sooo looking forward to it and can't even tell him! No word from EasyHotels just yet...

  • Forgot to say go to the cathedral as well, don't take the lift, take the stairs, much cheaper, now that is MSE! The views from the roof are amazing.
2p off is still 2p off!
  • Very excited now and will start researching Milan - am going to tell Mr EL's mum, she will be so happy as she looooves Italy!
