we had something like this years ago in spain with cigarette lighters.

for a deaf mute, her certainly knew plenty of swear words when the lighters vanished into the mrs. bag (he walked round putting them on all the tables and then come round to collect money). we claimed we had never seen the lighters and politely asked him to piss off. he heard me say that alright.

see also: being harassed by beggars and beggaresses in berlin and one asked 'do you speak german?' to which she got a swift 'nein'. she followed it with a quick 'well then, do you speak english?' 'no'.

the only way i can describe her face was like this

not seen it in this country but we got one almost every night when we was in tenerife last. most resteraunt owners removed them though as soon as they saw what they was up to, along with all the looky looky men too.

This is a well known scam in Thailand , you get them all from young kids to old age pensioners doing the rounds of the bars and restaurants evry day !
one was at our table in a bar when my o/h was coming back from the loo , he sure did jump when she said from behind him ......

  • Seen this many times in Europe....particuarly Romania.

Often they put things on your table like lighters and keyrings and then come back hoping you buy them. Some of them actually are deaf/mute but there is a scam element too.

I'd have responded with a bit of well-chosen British sign language

  • Had this happen in France a couple of times when I was working in Disneyland and commuting back and forth via the train. Just shook my head and they took their stupid thing and sodded off.

Pop in to the Tasca branch and ask to speak to the franchise owner/branch manager. Tell them exactly what happened, and why you find it objectionable to be held to emotional ransom at your own table when dining.

The franchise owner/branch manager will be (if they have any sense whatsoever) absolutely livid that their staff let beggars (for begging it is, just lazy begging) harass customers, and remind their staff to not be so bloody stupid in the future. Then offer you a free meal to make up for the upset one, and to thank you for bringing it to their attention.

If they don't, they deserve to lose your business.
