Please help - Tiscali are terminating my contract tomorrow!

Options
I have just received this email from Tiscali:

22nd March 2005

Dear *******,

Important Information about your Tiscali account: ************@tinyworld.co.uk

We have recently contacted you by e-mail requesting that you reduce your usage to below 150 hours per month on your Tiscali AnyTime account, as it was adversely affecting the service we can offer other users.

Since this correspondence, your usage has remained above the maximum limit of 150 hours per month, and we have seen no significant reduction in your usage since we contacted you.

As explained in our previous communications, your Tiscali AnyTime account will therefore be terminated on March 23rd 2005 in accordance with our terms and conditions. You will still be able to use your email address.

Yours sincerely,

Tiscali Customer Service Team.

I have just checked my emails and they did infact email me in February but as I get so many emails every day, I overlooked it.

Please, please, please can someone give me some advice as I'm going to be well and truly stuffed if they cut me off tomorrow.

By the way, I can't get Broadband where I live until June.
Hopeless by name, hopeless by nature.

From what I`ve heard about Tiscali you should be well pleased, others are desperate to get rid of them and can`t.
Go to Dixons and get an AOL one month free trial disk to tied you over until you decide who to go to next.
After a free month AOL nearly always give you another month if you phone to cancel.
Once all your free trial is up and you phone to cancel they`ll ask why and if you say it`s too dear they`ll offer you a 22 hours a day deal for £9-99.
The only time you can`t use it is between 7.30-9.30pm.
Or you could sign up with https://www.fast4.net for £6-99 a month "unlimited"

As Alared says, you are extremely lucky. So many people are trying hard to leave this rotten ISP and can't.
The fact that you can still receive emails at your tiscali address is very handy. If I were you, I would take a look at topletter.com as their customer service, if you need it, is superb! You can also stay on for four hours before being kicked off and you are re-connected immediately.
  • Thanks you two - that is good to know. I just panicked when I read it - god I feel like some sort of criminal! I hadn't read the Tiscali small print and assumed that "Anytime" actually meant any time. As I'm on and off the net all day, I've been reconnecting when it's kicked me off. What a naughty girl I am.

How will this affect my PayPal account which has my Tiscali email address? Any ideas?

And Alared, I will definitely do that with AOL, most of my usage is in the day anyway.

    Thanks again,

If most of your usage is during the day I can safely recommend Fast4 (whom I now with after 2 months free AOL)
They seem to have a bit of trouble getting you connected in the evening peak
but during the day you can get connected first time no probs.

Go to Paypal and click on 'change my details.'
However, since you're keeping your email address, it doesn't really matter and if you need to contact someone you can use your new address.
Paypal have my old wanadoo address and I've had no problems at all.
Don't be too hasty in changing your ISP. Go to adslguide.org.uk and you will get lots od advice there.
They have information on ALL ISPs and people's experiences with them.

  • Thanks again you two and for that PayPal info Margaret. I'm selling a few items at the moment and it'll make life a lot easier if I can leave my email address as it is.

    BROADBAND £10 per month. https://www.e7even.com

512kbs. Currently free upgrade 1mb 1061places left. no limits or restrictions! Annual plan £170 (£50 modem). Biennial plan £240 (free modem). Is this the lowest priced broadband in U.K.? This is avaliable nationwide, unlike UK Online which is only for 4 million people. If you pay your subscription by credit card I understand you are protected by their guarantee, if the company went bust. Hope you find this useful.
No reliance should be placed on the above.

Not all credit cards will cover you. Best check first as they could leave you high and dry. Trading standards and CAB say it is NOT covered
