Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
You might have helped me with this one guys.

I have a pc in my dining room, the only phone socket I have is in the hall, I have a cable from the phone socket which has to trail across the room, its a long cable but gets walked on and I has started to look threaded. I can't seem to get another one that is long enough to replace it. I was worried that when it finally gives up the ghost, my broadband would die.
I have a wireless router which my laptop accesses the broadband via.
I could probably move the router into the hall and try accessing the pc via the dongle I bought for my laptop and have not used.
Only problem then would be - there isn't an electric socket to plug the router into. That would be an easier problem to solve though as it would be easier to buy/make a longer extension to the electric than the telephone socket.

Ha ha, its a pity you can't get wi fi electric too both my problems would then be solved!!
    Thanks.

    You have a few choices:
    1. Move the router nearer the phone socket and connect by Wi-fi. In terms of broadband this should get the best speed as the cable between the socket and router should be as short as possible.
The down side is that you have to have a mains cable - and you can't let that fray
    2. Extend the telephone socket taking care to omit the bell wire. This also gives you a working phone socket in another room (don't forget the filter). Still another wire to route.
    3. Get a new cable if you google RJ 11 broadband cable 10m you have a big choice. Obviously replace 10m with the length you need (3, 5, 10). Also available in Maplins The downside is the possible impact on speed.
    Hope this helps, Dave
