Or reduce it to £1? Or scrap it entirely?
I like the sound of that, particularly the second bit.

I just came across this option - as an existing Santander customer (with old A&L advantages) it sounds good, but there is one make or break question that has been mentioned before, but not answered:
If I change the account to 123 does anyone know if can I still use the local post office for deposits and withdrawals?
(Not every-one goes near a Santander branch office every day!!)

Just keep your existing account if you want to be sure you won't lose your Post Office facilities, and open a new 123. You used to be able to get cashback from TCB doing that; not sure it is still on offer.

I believe that you can as when you upgrade the card number remains the same.

However be aware that when your card expires, or if it is lost/ stolen, and your card number changes, you will likely lose post office access

hi there im a member of staff and alas no, once your old A&L card expires you can no longer use post office - however if you have an account already the plus is you can just trasnfer it into 123 account cx

Out of interest, will that be true for all customers, or just those that switch to a new current account?

    Thank you for comments.

One point: Our account cards are now showing Santander and not A&L, but we can still use the local sub PO

Just guessing from what online searches yielded in 5 minutes - could be that business and basic current accounts will continue to have Post Office access, but not the 1-2-3 current account.

I moved from FD to A&L (Santander) about 5 years ago to avail of a large interest free overdraft and changed back to FD a few years later.

I had problem after problem with them. Their telephone banking staff are just appalling, and whenever you go to a branch to sort something out they try to flog you some product or other.

My experience is basically the opposite: the branch staff tend to be hopeless but the telephone banking staff I've dealt with have been good. Luck of the draw I guess!
