Ipad: 32GB + WiFi version or the 16GB + WiFi + 3G

Can anyone tell me what's the difference between a 32GB + WiFi ipad and a 16GB + WiFi + 3G one. I'm not technically minded at all. Can you also explain what is 3G?

The 32gb WiFi version of the iPad has 32gb memory to store apps, music, photos etc. But you can only use the iPad to connect to the Internet over WiFi.
The 16gb WiFi+ 3g version has a smaller memory than the 32gb version, however you can use it over WiFi and 3G (Mobile Internet, which most smartphones use). It has a micro sim slot so you can insert a sim card to use the iPad whilst out and about, away from WiFi.
TBH I would not buy an IPad now, there are very strong rumours that the IPad 3 will be out on the 16th March, which will have a better resolution screen (similar to iPhone), better camera and hopefully better processor (quad core is rumored). Also Apple might release a iPad 2 8gb version at the same time, which is said to be around the £250-300 mark, alot cheaper than if you bought it now.0 -
As above, right now probably the worst possible time ever to buy an iPad 2, hang fire a couple of weeks.0

The OP doesn't know what 3G is. I think the improvements you mention may not make a blind bit of difference to the OP!
FWIW I bought a 32GB non-3G iPad 2 3 or 4 weeks ago, a) mostly to entertain my son on long car journeys (in place of an in-car DVD player or whatever) and b) because I couldn't wait for Apple to do whatever they were going to do with the iPad 3.
Got a good deal for the iPad 2 and very happy with it, even if I barely get a look in with it!Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

Thanks for your replies. I've actually won an ipad 2 in a competition. The company are asking me which one I want. Unfortunately they haven't given me a choice of the ipad 3 :rotfl:
So the 3G means I could make phone calls and use the internet when I'm out and about? I guess that 3G would cost me extra if I used it?Low carbing vegetarian. Aiming for 50-100g carbs per day0 -

I don't think you can use the 3G iPad for making calls, but you can definitely use the net (if you get a 3G card).
You'll need a 'micro SIM' card .. here's a pretty reasonable priced place to get data from http://apps.giffgaff.com/microgaff/
I've got a 32GB iPad, with no 3G, since i don't plan to take it out of the house often. I believe the 3G models also have GPS0 -

I didn't bother with 3G as I can tether it to my iPhone anyway if I need to.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

You wont be able to make calls with the 3G version, the Sim card is only used for Mobile Internet. You will need to find a price plan for the iPad sim card (Giff Gaff do a great Pay as you go plan).
If you will be using the iPad at home, or at your office and it has WiFi then the WiFi version will be fine. If you will be using it everywhere most of the time then go for the 3G version. But TBH you can get WiFi at most places now, and if you are unsure of using 3G then I think just the WiFi version will be best.
If you are selling the iPad then go for the 3g version as they tend to go for a bit more money.
Congratulations with your win, wish I was so lucky.0 -

Doubt the OP knows hows to tether, or even if he's got a iPhone (or smartphone capable of creating the WiFi hotspot), plus adding a tether plan to a contract can be expensive, unless you JB your iPhone, or use something like MiFi.0
