Undercharged by garage?
Hello all,
just a quickie as I cant seem to find any solid info on t'internets.
Last month I had some work done on my car, I paid, grumbled about stupid expensive cars, went home and thought no more of it.
A month later I get a phone call from the garage saying something along the lines "weve been going through our records and you owe us £80 because we undercharged you"
Now my immediate thought is "Go  yourselves! You cant come at me a month later demanding money because of a mistake you made"
Ever since then Ive been recieving phone calls and text messages from various members of staff at the garage seveal times a day, all of which ive been ignoring.
Where do I stand LEGALLY on the matter? I know yes MORALLY I probably should go and pay, however Im unemployed and money is tight enough as it is! I need it more than they do. I just had to SORN my car because I cant afford to tax it at the moment, let alone worry about some garage that reckons I owe them money.

Unless they carried out work that you had not authorised, then you do legally owe them, and they will be legally entitled to pursue you for their money.0

Did they quote a price you agreed, work done & paid? ok
Did they do some work, then told you the price and you paid? not recommended but ok
Did they quote a price, do the work & charged you less at the till? not ok0 -

Correct, but i'll laymanise a bit...... In other words if you paid less than you were told it would cost and later agreed to, then you do owe them.
Kinda like being undercharged at the supermarket, by placing the items in your basket, you were agree to pay for them, so if you get stopped outside the store you really have to pay.
Though there is always an argument for them being responsible for charging the correct amount.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Don't think its the same. I bought 20 Terrys chocolate oranges last year when they were 15p instead of £2.00, tesco can't now contact me and ask me to pay more. If the garage invoice said X amount, and op paid X, then the garage can't come back and say 'sorry, its X+£80'.
If however the invoice said 'X' and they paid X-£80, then you'll be paying up, sooner or later.0 -
If they gave you an invoice for the work you agreed, and you paid that amount, legally you are fine. (Whether the garage will want you in again is a different matter!)
If they failed to charge for a part or got their addition wrong, I'd hope you would be popping a cheque in the post.0 -

No they can't, because they mis-priced the goods......
If however you'd paid 15p each when they were labelled as £2.00, then they could have a case.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

No you don't. If they give you an invoice and you pay the amount on it, then you've concluded the deal. If you pay them and they give you the incorrect change then once you've walked out the building thats it the same as if you go to a supermarket and they give incorrect change.
They can't go chasing you after the fact. If the they've mis-invoiced you thats their tough luck.0 -
Surely they must have explained the £80. Did they forget to add an item to the amount, was it added up wrongly? How did they initially tell you the price? Have you got an invoice? How did you pay?0

What did they not charge you for?
Was it labour, parts, something else?
Do you have the original invoice?Where do I stand LEGALLY on the matter? I know yes MORALLY I probably should go and pay,
Not necessarily, depends on the circumstances. If they quote you £x and charge you £x, there's not much they can do. If they did something extra without your permission, that's their problem.0 -

Thats what I mean. Was the invoice 'labelled' as X, which is the amount paid, or is it labelled as 'Y' and OP paid £80 short of the true cost? If its, 'X' then tough titties.0
