I think I'm along the same lines as Nonnatus and Linda32. I do occasionally wipe down the walls when I notice they have lots of dirty handprints etc, but the most the ceilings have ever had is a quick hoover of the cobwebs!
One thing I do daily is to dust around the wee tv and cupbaord in the bedroom which collect dust like crazy. I grab an old holey sock and give them a rub over then chuck it downstairs for the wash.

You wash your ceiling?:eek::eek: There is no hope for me whatsoever!:o:rotfl:
I've never washed a ceiling in my life. And walls just get wiped when there's fingermarks. Curtains get washed once or if they're lucky twice a year. :o

My routine is pretty simple. My Monday and Friday routine is set in stone, other bits get done when i see and think about them.

    Monday:
    Vacuum upstairs
    Dust upstairs
    Vacuum stairs
    Vacuum downstairs
    Dust dowstairs
    Kitchen floor
Washing after the weekend - washed and put away
    Clean cooker/microwave
    Clean and bleach the bathroom

    Friday:
    Vacuum upstairs
    Dust upstairs
    Vacuum stairs
Vacuum downstairs (behind the settee and under the dog crates)
    Dust downstairs
    Kitchen floor
Washing (which includes all our bedding/dog bedding and i make a start on hubbies work clothes if he is back from working away before i go to bed)
    Quick clean of the cooker
    Clean and bleach the bathroom
    Clean out the chinchilla

Cleaning windows and anything extra gets done Tuesday-Thursday. I vacuum twice daily cause of the dog hairs and i bleach the toilet before i go to bed.

Only once did i try washing the painted walls in my kitchen. It took all day and left streaky marks which took forever to get rid of.

I do run the feather duster round the walls and ceilings when i think about it.

What has occurred to me reading the thread is absolutely no one mentions help (oh except for some children sorting own room:)). I appreciate some of you may be alone and have to do it all but that can't be the case everywhere.

My DH does almost all our cleaning. I clean the bathroom after use as I like it to be as I would want to find it. I clean around the kitchen as I cook. I do laundry so changing towels, beds and soft furnishing is down to me but other than that it's not my problem.

If some of you are doing all the cleaning and I notice in some cases gardening, cooking, possibly shopping and even cleaning the car. What do your partners do with their time?

I dont do the gardening, hubby likes to do that himself. He moans about it but whenever i try and help he moans that i dont do it right. He's a perfectionist and sees faults in everything i do so i just leave him to it.

I dont go grocery shopping either i get it online. All but one of my children has flown the nest. He's not at all messy and not really that untidy. I cook him a meal and he washes his plate which is all i ask of him. He does clean the interior windows for me if i ask. He's good like that and he will wash up if i ask.

Hubby and i have clearly defined roles and we rarely cross eachothers paths.

Good question!!!! I am a SAHM, so I tend to do everything. My dh doesn't do anything on his days off, but only because I don't ask him to. If he's off when I'm at college, then I just leave him to it. He does the school run, and cooks dinner, but generally doesn't clean up after himself. I have to say he does step in pretty well when I am unwell (like these past few days when I have put my back out and have been stuck in bed apart from shuffling to the loo a few times).

my 3 kids have to tidy thier bedroom, put everything away, change thier bedding, hoover the bedroom, hall and stairs (they take it in turns to do stairs and hall) and they have to do this on a saturday to get their spending money (11 yr olds get £3, 14yr old gets £10). they also have to clean out their hamsters weekly, and sort out toys and clothes to recycle.
the rest of it gets done when it needs it ... last thing i do weekly is on a sunday night and thats mop the kitchen floor.
i find if it do a quick wipe round then it negates the need to do a big clean.

Having just done it, I thought I'd share my bathroom routine: I always the think the best time to clean the bathroom is when it's damp and steamy. I have my shower, dry myself/towel dry hair, cream myself with body lotion and then while it's soaking in I always give all the room a quick lick (surfaces, basin, loo, mirrors, glass shelf etc) and properly clean one area. So today I gave the bath a proper clean while on another day I'd just rinse it out. Another day I might do windows or tiles. I keep a set of cleaning stuff in the bathroom specially. I'm fortunate enough to have a cupboard with a spare shelf but a nice container/box would work just as well. Then I come on here for a bit while my hair's drying off naturally before I blow dry it!:) HTH someone.

I tend to clean/wipe down the bathroom while the children are in the bath - they are small enough to all 3 share and I generally have to be in there keeping an eye on them so I might as well be cleaning! Or folding laundry in the next room.

I do all the housework (DD age 2 'helps' as I go) during the day as I am a SAHM and that's my 'job'. I try not to do too much at weekends as DH is off so I feel I should be too! The boys (4and5) are expected to put away their toys, take plates to the kitchen if I remind them, tidy their bookshelf when asked... they often make their own beds of their own accord though I redo them! I don't run around picking up after them as that's a slippery slope to slavery!

DH has a box in the hallway, if I find his 'stuff' lying around it gets flung in there, if he wants things to be somewhere else he has to put them there himself. The box is overflowing so I think I need a new system :rotfl:
