Harry Potter tour (Leavesden studios)

Hiya! A question (or 2!) for those who have been to the Warner Brothers Studio tour at Leavesden.......

I'm going to get tickets for us 3 (2 adults, 1 teen), and was hoping to go early in June to coincide with Ma in Law's birthday. However, the only time slots available are 3 or 4 pm, or later. Is it worth booking a late time slot? Does it still allow time to see everything? I don't want to spend nearly 80 quid and have to miss bits out.

Any responses gratefully received!

Thanks folks! :j

The tour does not open until 31st March. In the FAQ it states that the tour is expected to last approx 3 hours. At weekends, bank holidays and school holidays from 28 April it says the studio is opne until 6pm so a 3pm slot should give you time to see it all I would have thought.

  • Been today and thought it was great :). A must for any Harry Potter fan.

We had a time slot of 2.30pm and we were all done in three hours.

Very impressed how it was all run and how lovely everyone who works there were.

We were there yesterday too, but our time slot was 3.30pm. Like you we thought it was fab and would recommend to any Harry Potter fans. We did the tour in just over two hours, but we tend to be always in a rush everywhere!!! We actually went in about 15 minutes early as joined the roped area at that time. The doors were opened and we went into a toom where a tour guide gave a short talk and we watched a short three minute film. We went into the next room and watched a short film with talk from the stars of the film. Then the tour started with a guide talking us therough the great hall. From there on we just went around ourselves, but there were lots of staff on hand who chatted to us, plus TV screens providing information. Half way through there is an outdoor bit which is mainly covered which you can buy butter beer in for £2.95 a glass. It is very sweet non alcoholic drink of what seems to be soda and fudge like flavour with a creamy foam head. You cannot bring food into the tour itself so have to eat it before going back inside. As they only let so many in at a time it is not crowded so plenty of opportunities to take photos and really look at items. It is awesome the amount of work that went into the film sets and props. Although you have an entry time, there seems to be no time limit as to how long you can stay once in there. The special buses to the train station run until 9pm so must be open until then if needed.

The gift shop is expensive, but lots of people were taking pictures with wands, stuffed owls, brooms etc with staff not having a problem with that. You can get your picture taken as a group in the robes, with wands and one poster picture is £12 and two £15.

If you arrive early there is a cafe that sells starbucks coffee, drinks, sandwiches and cakes and you can also go in the large gift shop. We did not go on the Harry potter bus as drove but that looked fun as a double decker with Harry Potter graphics on the side.

IYO would it be worth just getting on the bus for a £2 return trip (save wandering around the entrance a for a little bit for photo's). This is on the basis of not having /not being able to afford FP tickets for 2+2 of us.

    London bus to Watford Junction - virtually free/cheap, HP bus £2 x 4 = OK'ish day out?

what mean that the gift shop is expensive? can you give me some examples please?
    Thanks!

I am sorry I can't remember the exact prices but seem to remember a stuffed toy owl was aprrox £25, a small box of chocolate frogs was about £8, costumes ranged from about £80 upwards. I remember seeing a dressing up costume I had seen in M&S a few years ago that was the one hermonine wore to the Winter ball for about £16 and a similar one was £160 in the gift shop.

I don't think it would be worth doing that as there is no much in the entrance apart from the cafe and the gift shop, plus a car hanging from the ceiling and the bus is just a double decker with stickers on the side (and they show the tour info on big screens) and it is only a short ride to the place. The HP studios has nothing else around there either. I personally suspect in time the tickets to the tour will have offers on them once the initial rush to go to the tour dies down and would wait to do the tour.

Security check tickets before letting you in so wouldn't be able to get past the gate without a ticket.

OP is planning on using the HP bus, which security just let drive in past the main gate to the bus stop, so wouldn't be an issue.

Yey, I was just wondering the same questions as OP and found this thread! I'm a massive HP fan!

Looks like it's worth a visit - shame it's so expensive, especially for a family, but what isnt' these days....I'm sure it will be on Tescos Points sooner or later!
Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!
