Potatoes and veg in plastic bags,I'm sure mum used to take her shopping bag lined with newspaper.

kitchen roll
shower gel

I buy hand washing gel, but that is only for work reasons though not for simple hand washing. Its the kind that cleans your hands and dries on your hand without towels etc.
OH wants kitchen roll and I refuse to use the stuff and I think its a complete waste of money (no pets or children here). One roll lasts about a 3 months here.0 -

Tinned Tomatoes , would you believe I didn't taste Spag Bol until I was about 20.
Yes, how true!It was the cure for all earaches as far as I remember.
We never had fancy bite/sting sprays either - simple vinegar was put on the sting followed by mummy's kiss to make it all better.
Who remembers the sawdust on the butcher's floor?
And I know it's not food, but I remember us getting our first duvets. It was a huge leap for mankind that day - no more layers of sheets and blankets and hours to make a bed each morning!0 -
How I hated bedmaking before duvets became popular.
Washing up liquid wasn't introduced until 1958.0 -

Vaccuum bags (although they are becoming rarer now)
Bin liners - never used them when I was growing up
Under the rim toilet cleaners (we just used Vim)
Avocados (mind you, I only had my first butternut squash a couple of years ago)
Wine in boxes
Eggs in boxes, we used to bring our own
Milk in cartons
Anything gluten free
Anything with peanut warnings
Labels with nutritional information on

Cigarettes with filters

I watched a programme last night about how kitchens have changed in the last century. Was so funny watching people talk about how having a fridge was so unusual, people used to have parties and serve food out the fridge :rotfl:
One woman was talking about serving foreign food like spaghetti bolognese :rotfl:
What did Britain eat before we had pasta?!?Thinking about it now I can't ever remember spices being used at home, we had the usual wooden spice rack but I don't think any of the bottles were opened!
Meals were always very traditional, potato veg & meat or chips and something. It must have stuck with me because I must admit I prefer simple "traditional" food even now, I'm not a fan of spicy food at all.
Just remembered, the first time I had a burger in a bun was when I was about 15 and went to a Wimpey with a friend, no McDonalds up here back then.Dum Spiro Spero0 -
Specialist cleaners for baths & showers, sprays for window cleaning, I can only ever remember Vim, Jif as it was called back then, Windolene and bleach.
Also looking back I can't remember any big supermarkets like Tesco, Asda or Sainsburys, I think we had a Co-op in one town I lived in and a Presto in another and they weren't very big.Dum Spiro Spero0 -
Who remembers the sawdust on the butcher's floor?
Oh yes I remember it well and having to tiptoe through it to avoid the blood stained bits (apologies to any vegetarians reading)
There was also a small grocer shop in our village who sold butter by the pound wrapped in greaseproof paper with the criss cross paddle marks on the top - none of the foil wrapped stuff in those days.Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61
