Using the brake pedal at traffic lights?

My car hasn't got a handbrake as such. It has a foot operated parking brake and I hardly, if ever, use it. I usually knock the autobox into neutral if I'm stationary for more than a few moments. Always have, and my last car lasted over 150,000 miles without any gearbox problems.0

Foot operated parking brake is fantastic once you get used to it, can pop it into N at the same time as you press the handbrake pedal.
One of the few things the Americans got right about their cars.0 -

It only works well on an auto. A manual is a different story, especially off road. Too many pedals and not enough feet.0 -
Learning to drive in London I've noticed the main annoyance is not getting going at traffic lights, rather than brake lights. I keep my foot on the clutch and brake at most traffic lights as they're mostly short ones, and so I can keep it at about the bite when I move off and don't stall (even more annoying for people). I don't get blinded by driver's brake lights as I leave enough gap between me and the car in front, didn't even realise it's annoying, but then again I have only had a couple of night driving lessons. I guess it's worse in the dark.0
