Tapas style? Although unlikely to be money saving. Money saving things are always the big pots of food - casseroles, pies, curries etc which are easy to prepare, can be made with cheaper ingredients and will keep.
When is the wedding and where are you having it? Then we might be able to come up with something appropriate?May GC - £100 per week
Week 1 - £120/£100 , Week 2 £110/100:o, Week 3 £110/£100:mad:, Week 4 £50/100Week 5
DFW - March '13 - c/c £5600, April £4500, May £2500 :T0 -

Ooo now I like that idea. The tapas one, but then again I think tapas are fab any time, and very sociable.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
I love tapas too, my favourite food by miles.
Hmm, now I want some....May GC - £100 per week

Our venue said we could literally have anything that we wanted - Mr Duck said Pie and peas and was told no problem!!
We are offering our guests a choice of two mains and a veggie option which will mean they have to rsvp or we cant order their meal!!
We were going to have the main meal and a dessert but now we are toying with the idea of a starter and main meal then cupcakes for a dessert with tea or coffee. Best thing is the cost it is less than half the cost of full roast dinner type of meal but we still get a served sit down meal without the faff!!
SwampyExpect the worst, hope for the best, and take what comes!!:o0 -

I got married in May in the North Yorkshire Moors and we had a hog roast with 3 salads; salt and chilli green beans, gado gado noodles (but without the peanuts as we had a guest who was allergic) and grilled mediterranean veg, with new potatoes, and then all the trimmings for a hot pork roll. It was lovely.
For the evening meal we had a cheese stack with pork pies and the local chip van came. The chip van went down REALLY well!!
The venue recommended the chip van and said fish and chips always goes down well. Don't underestimate how many people love fish and chips! We paid for half in advance and arranged to pay for any extras at the end of the night, that way you don't have to guess how many of your guests are going to be hungry.
We considered having "afternoon" tea for the puddings, i.e. scone, brownie etc. but decided we didn't need it as we had muffins on the tables as part of our wedding cake. But still think this would be a really good idea.
Another idea for puddings is an ice cream van, again wanted to do this but decided that we didn't need it with having the muffins.
Now for something really wacky, we didn't have an ordinary sponge wedding cake. We had two tiers of pure fudge!! Vanilla marbled with choc for top tier and choc rocky road for the bottom tier. We cut it after the speeches but had it brought out as pudding for the evening meal.
What ever you choose I'm sure it will be amazing!!0 -
We're having a BBQ, with plenty of salads etc. Has worked out very MSE.
We're doing canapes ourselves for when everyone arrives and putting party food-type nibbles out in the evening.0 -
We're getting married at 1.30pm in church...then into the church hall for tea and cake. (no alcohol as it is a Methodist church so we're using sparkling elderflower fizz for the toasts...yum)
Then onto our evening 'do' which is also in an old church hall/community centre so it's going to be very relaxed and we are having a hog roast. The bit I'm really looking forward too is that there is a local business (in Bristol) called Vee Double Moo which is a camper van converted into an icecream van. They are turning up in the evening to give everyone icecream after the hog roast, then then we'll have coffee and cookies. Not that expensive either.0 -
Pancakes would be different...
Don't know if it would work though!0
