Unusual wedding breakfast/meal ideas?

Hello :)

I'm trying to get together some ideas for "unusual" wedding breakfasts/meals for the day time reception - basically anything that's a bit different to the usual "set menu three course meal" that you get when you book a wedding package. Some good ideas I have seen so far are full English wedding breakfast :) and afternoon tea. I think these are both fab but would also like some more ideas. The more moneysavingexpert-esque the better, as I would rather have more guests than cut down because the meals are expensive.

Thanks in advance :)

I'm having afternoon tea then fish an chips. My dad wanted us to have a hog roast (I would have loved it!) but all OH family is vegi! N a whole pig between 30 people (my side) would be a little too much!! Regarding cost- our afternoon noon tea is £13 pp (that's the sit down wedding breakfast) incl vintage crockery etc, and fish n chips £5pp average (choice o fish or pea fritter).

But you could just go for something different, like Indian food etc?

A high tea (which IS different from afternoon), it is more substantial and there is usually meat etc.

You can hire pie/ fish n chip vans if you want a festival feel. Or have a "proper" picnic- hampers and rugs, etc.

All depends what you want your day to be? Relaxed/ formal or somewhere in between?

  • Thanks! Some fab ideas already! I haven't got a clue what I want yet, I just know I want something a bit different. I'm loving doing the research though!

    Hello

We're having a bit of a non-standard wedding spread over 2 days (Yes it does mean I get to have TWO dresses :j )

We're having a small service with our families and a meal at a nice restaurant, then the next day we're having a big party up at a beautiful country barn when we'll have a bbq - will work out about £8-10 a head for the food - lots of us (including me) are veggie but the pub are fine with doing some homemade veggie burgers and halloumi kebabs for us and the usual bbq staples for the omnivores - we just wanted something very relaxed and fun, we're hoping no one will miss the fancy sit down dinner!

At ours we had rolling canap!s for a couple of hours, then a few slightly larger ones, then for the "main" we had "food pods" - tables with chefs cooking food to order for the guests. One did lamb and duck stirfrys, the other did kebabs - monkfish with lime or teriyaki beef. Then there were dessert canap!s and cake circulated for as afters. All worked really well and had loads of compliments both on the food and on the "differentness" of it all.

Only downside was that it wasn't exactly what you'd call moneysaving - but I'm sure there are places that would do a similar thing for rather less than we paid.

Every time I read more about your wedding I want to go back in time and be a guest!

We've only seen a few photos (I think you're shy :)) but it's been one of the most memorable weddings on here (for me).
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

I'll try and put some photos of the food on this thread for everyone else when I get home and have the proper photos to hand...:)
