E-on Energy Fit monitor - massive bill

Options
Despite using less gas and electricity than this time last year, my bill is £230 higher this quarter.

I had an E-on Energy Fit monitor put in in October, and the massive increase has happened since then. Even taking into account the recent increases, it couldn't explain what has happened. I have emailed E-on to ask them to explain but I think i will be fobbed off.

Has anyone any ideas please. I am disabled and on oxygen and a bill of £560 this quarter has left me in a state of panic.

Thank you.

Less gas and electricity than the same period last year? And the bill is basically doubled? That shouldn't be hard to track down. Do you know what tariff you were on then and now? Can you prove you're using the same energy than last year or are you just guessing? Do you have an actual bill for the same quarter last year? Is the bill based on actual meter readings or estimated? Are you basing your "less than last year" calculation on real meter readings?

The energy fit monitor does not do anything, it is just a remote indicator of your electricity use. Do your billed meter readings correspond with your actual readings.
  • Thanks for your reply. All my bills are still online, and I';m using their graph figures which show I've used less than last year. I've been in this house for 18 years and this is the first time the bill has been astranomical. It coincides with the energy fit monitor being installed. I really wish i had't had it put it in now. Its been so mild this winter that i haven't had the heating on much so it seems really odd to get a massive bill.
  • Afte4r having the energy fit monitor installed, the gas meter does not show a reading on the meter. I was told this at the time it was installed. But there is no way now of checking the readings. I have to rely on the monitor to send both the gas and electricity readings to them.
  • It is the new monitor by the way, which replaces the need for a meter reader to read both gas and electricity. It is all done electronically now so no-one comes to read the meters.

Forget the graphs, they're a waste of time.

Look at the actual amount of units you used in the winter quarter last year and this, both gas and electricity. Post the number of units. Post the period of the bill also, since it might not be the same number of days. Tell us if any of the readings were estimates.

Then either tell us the tariff names or the prices (standing charge plus unit price, or tier 1 and 2 prices). Someone here will quickly be able to tell you where the doubled bill has come from.

That doesn't sound like the Energy Fit monitor. That sounds like a Smart meter. That could easily be affecting your bills in various ways. There could be a mistake with the meter, or a mistake with initial readings. Post the bill info anyway and it will be obvious if your current consumption is off the chart. You should be able to see your actual meter readings. Did they not give you a fancy display to go with the new meter?
  • I'm sorry it must be the smart meter. I'll go onto the eon site and get all the actual reading. I am so grateful to you all for replying. x

These are the consumptions not the "meter readings". It is much better to post the "meter readings" (the numbers which appear on the meters).
