Self-checkout Tesco Suspicious Top-up error

A couple of days ago I used a self-checkout at Tesco Express and chose to purchase a £10 Tmobile top-up. I noticed when I got home that the receipt I picked up only had a 12 digit number and barcode and there was no 16-digit voucher number. I realised then that I had probably not waited long enough for a second receipt to come out.

I visited the shop late that evening and was told to come back the next day so they could phone Tmobile. I went in the next day and at around 9.15am the sales assistant went into the back of the shop, he came back saying the T-mobile system was down and gave me a computer printed receipt with a PI number on, and asked me to come back another time.

My husband went back in today and they again phone T-mobile. He has been told that they can't refund the top-up as it was used at 9.20 yesterday (same time that I went in).

Am I being suspicious for no reason? Is it just coincidence? Or does it sound like the sales assistant has either accidentally/maliciously registered the top-up?

Don't take this the wrong way but you spent days of effort trying to get back a £10 top up??? No offence but there is not much you can do about it. Maybe you should top up over the phone or online via a debit/credit card next time?
