Free pay as you go SIM cards
Hi there,
I need to obtain a few pay as you go SIM cards which allow me to receive texts.
I don't want to have to pay for or have to top-up these SIM cards with balance, I merely need them to be able to receive texts.
Does anybody know where I could find such a deal?
Thanks

There is no such Sim cards
All Sim cards have to be Topped up most every 180days
You could just use O2 Sim in Phone and use till it runs out you will be able to receive text but that's it

This is incorrect. My Tesco sim has never been topped up since I've got it for free more than a year ago and was using only for receiving calls and texts. Orange sims can last for years without topping up and making any calls or sending any texts (am not sure about the first activation).
Sim cards do run out but its up to the network when they stop it
that's why they say 180 days before you have to top-up
My father had his Payandgo O2 Sim since it was btcellnet years ago and had money on it but never used it for ages then a couple of months ago they turned it off so he lost the number
but that don't mean there no cut of period
My Orange Payandgo Sim was turned off as well because i never topped it up
Whats the point in saying you must top-up with in 180 days?
You do have to activate for the Sim to work and some networks you have to top-up before you can use like Orange you have to ring them to get the number.

Can anyone provide me with the URLs to obtain such free SIM cards (which can receive texts without being on a contract or requiring an initial top-up).
Thanks0 -
It's an urban myth that you have to top up. In fact at most providers you have to make a chargeable call or to send a texts, but at some providers an incoming call or text will suffice.
No, it was turned off because it was not used for more than 180 days. As I said I am not sure about activation without a top up though.
Who says this besides some incompetent staff in the shops?
Who says this O2 do on terms and condition
Our Rights to Bar or Disconnect Your Mobile Phone
7.1 If you do not make or receive a chargeable call at least once in any 6 month period your Mobile Phone will be disconnected and you will lose any remaining credits balance on your Account. If you wish to be re-connected after this time you will be given a new Mobile Phone number.

That says nothing about topping up, only chargeable calls. I have an Orange PAYG SIM and can't remember the last time I topped it up, probably about a year ago, I do send the odd text on it though about once a month.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
