Prepaid cards, Orange vs Neteller - which one is the best?

I like the Net+ card because it's a debt-free alternative to credit cards: no interest charges, no annual fees and it's free to apply for. Using a Net+ card in place of a credit card means your personal and banking information are kept private, so it's a great way to pay online.0

You get the exact same with a credit card if you pay it off every month in full plus you get section 75 protection along with the potential for cashback. If you are able to manage a prepaid card and keep it filled then I imagine you'd be savvy enough to use a credit card responsibly.
Not only that but on the fraud side if your credit card is used fraudulently the bank will be out of pocket during the time of investigation, rather than your current or prepaid account having less funds.0 -
I have both. Neteller used to have the Virtual Debit Card which let you make a so called One Time Credit Card Number which was a very secure way to deal with unknown companies online as it stopped them charging your card again and again like they could do if they have the card number of a real plastic card. This was the reason I signed up with them. They are mostly know for their gambling payments.
Now Neteller stoped the Virtual Net+ card at the end of February 2012 (with very little notice), so their plastic offering is now just the same as everyone elses and as you say they are US or IOM based and a bit remote.
I applied for an Orange card and was first sent a limited one as they could not verify my address. I found out that one of the credit checking agencies had a corrupted address for me. Got that fixed and applied again and got a full Orange PrePaid card.
Works fine and the webpage is easy to use to manage it. You also get text alerts if you want when balance is getting low (you set the limit). No charge to top up via bank debit card or standing order (so could have wages paid in to it I guess). No charge to topup in Orange shop either.
Free to use for purchases and a percentage charge if you withdraw cash at an ATM - so good for small cash withdrawls not so good for big ones where a fixed fee card would be lower.
Oh yes phoned up and cancelled the limited Orange Cash card and got all my money back.:rotfl:
I think Orange having a big presence in the UK would be the safer bet. O2 used to have a pre-paid card as well but that is no longer issued to new users but they say they are going to launch a new pre paid card. So it seems the phone companies are wanting to get into micro payment via the phone and more traditional plastic cards.
Hope this helps. Oh yes you can get additional Orange cards on the same account.0 -
How long does it take for reward points to show up on orange cash?
I have had mine a few days, made a few purchases and as yet none of them seem to have given me a reward. I have brought Petrol from Shell and Fishing Tackle which I got online if it makes any difference.0
