fly by wire so just put a bit of extra cable in eh?
    and move a brake hose
i dont often do roll on floor giffs but this needs one:D

So you really reckon it's a lot harder than, say, all the people on SXOC who have converted their automatic cars to manual by changing the gearbox and fitting a clutch and a different brake pedal?

We've actually gone the other way and converted one back to automatic as, at the time, my partner had disabilities that make driving a manual rather painful. The work cost less than a grand.

These days it's almost impossible for her to drive a standard manual as her right foot cannot take much pressure at all, so she left foot brakes. If it were her other foot that was the problem, you can be damn sure we'd get those pedals swapped, most likely by the same guy who did the automatic conversion for us.

Edit: Just realised what you're getting at, I missed the S off the word "hoses" and so you probably thought I thought the pedal had a hose attached to the back of it rather than a servo and master cylinder.

ive done auto to manual before now but its very complicated on modern cars because even the ecu is programmed to the auto gearbox
can bus doesnt help and corporate liability either

i wouldnt want to do a conversion for left foot accelerator that required modification of the brake pedal setup and im sure the limited companies that do must tread a fine line in getting it foolproof and probably not cheap either:)

I'm sure the places that do it know what they're doing and choose cars suitable for conversion. For example you wouldn't want to do it if the engine bay was so cramped that you couldn't move the brake servo at all.

I wonder if it would be easier on cars where the accelerator pedal drops to the floor rather than pushes toward the bulkhead. In this case it may be possible to do it with a special L shaped brake pedal as the accelerator wouldn't interfere with it and the servo wouldn't need moving at all.

Yes it's probably not cheap, but that's true for pretty much every piece of equipment out there that helps with disabilities.

1stly, there are many fully able peolpe of your age with far worse driving records than you have.
I have sympathy as hopefully at my age your mistakes, unless you happen to run into me, are unlikely to affect my premiums.

I don't thing you are being knocked back because of your disability, unless it is actually affecting your driving.
If youy feel it isn't then carry on, the car will be a great help later on.:A
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

I doubt they move anything under the bonnet.
If it's drive by wire, it'll just need the accelerator moving, and the wiring re-routed.
The brake probably has a short linkage put behind the pedal, just to transfer the pushing action a few inches to the right.
(A bit like some production cars with the servo left where it was for lhd, and a linkage across the bulkhead to the pedal box for the rhd versions)

In fact on an automatic, probably just a joggle in the pedal arm itself , on putting the large auto brake pedal to the right instead of the left of the arm would give enough room to put the accelerator to the left of it, where the clutch would have fitted.
Or even fitting a manual sized brake pedal, and using the clutch bracket for the accelerator.
