Hey all,
So last August I had an accident in a Mini, and it was a CAT D write off (slipped on some mud in the road, end up in a field where a boar hole post damaged the sump box or whatever its called) I have mild cerebal palsay, told the DVLA when I applied for my first licence that I had the condition, my first provisional comes and no restrictions.
18 months and 3 driving tests down the line...I pass my test (June 2011). Once I wrote off my car, I spoke to my GP to see if she thinks I need to go for a driving assesment, tells me she doesn't think I have a problem accidents happen, and some of us take longer to drive. Well...i wasn't convinced, and put myself in for an assessment.
Go to the assessment..they put me on one of those static rigs to time my reactions, left better than right (right side is affected) so go out in a automaticwith left foot acclerator
Now- firstly, am I the only one who slows down round SHARP, unknown bends??? Apparently so.
Anyway- outcome from assesment. DVLA takes my manual licence, has issued me with a provisional for 3 months training in a left foot acclerator auto and then go for another assesment, fail it licence goes for good
All i need to know:
Am I wasting my time?!? I dont want to fork out hundreds again for driving lessons to just be knocked back
Has anyone done re training, gone for another assesment, and got their licence back?
Thanks

The best you can do is practice as much as you can, and have a go at the assessment.
Unfortunately we don't know the state of the condition affecting your driving or your driving ability in general, but I wish you all the best.
If you enjoy driving and / or need to drive, I'd have a go and try. I think you'll do OK if you really practice for it.
Good luck.0 -
Some people take forever to pass their tests with or without disabilities.
Didn't that maureen woman off the TV fail something like 20 tests?
Thousands of lessons and she was still useless after she passed. That must have been fixed
how on earth could she pass?

How much money and effort are you going to put into it?
Are you a defeatist or do you have a can do attitude?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Considering the accident you had (which fortunately didn't involve anyone else as far as I can see) I fail to understand why you are questioning the outcome. You don't just slip on some mud and end up in a field, or at least you wouldn't if you were watching the road and driving within the prescribed limits.
Looks like a fair assesment / outcome to me.0 -
Hopefully this is just me being pedantic, but you wrote "slows down around sharp unknown bends". You really ought to be slowing down before you reach the sharp unknown bends. Braking while taking a corner risks unsettling the car and sending you into another field.0

Possibly the most common accident around here, after a tractor has pulled out of the field and left mud over both sides of the road for about 100m.0 -

I think you better re read what I put my love.
I said am i the only one who slows down going round sharp bents, not not.
Don't comment if your not going to read it properly.0 -

Not really the point. Can I ask you- how much country driving do you do? Im guessing you live in a big city, London perhaps?0 -

I was just pointing out that it's open to interpretation what you meant. It's clear you were saying that you're not the sort of driver who just flies around a corner treating the limit as a target, which is good.
It just sounded like you could mean you brake during the corner, which is bad. I did also say that this is probably just me being pedantic. Still worth checking though.0 -

I think people who get punctures should have their licence revoked personally.0
