Cat D check

I remember years back going round a place that sold write offs. I remember one being purely because the alloys had been nicked and the cost of replacement alloys and tyres from the dealers was as much as the car was worth. I've seen older ones written off because the locks have been done when stealing the vehicle.

.... i wouldn't go near one thats been in an accident.

At this point in time I wouln't go near one that I hadn't bought as salvage.

But keep up the evangelical work it keeps the price of salvage down....;)
  • Fair enough to people, think your mad if im honest. Thats why you buy new, or next to new. The car I had was repossesion and was 2 weeks old, thoroughly checked by a mechanic friend of mine after I brought it and drove it.

And to OP- what are you going to do if it comes to a week down the line and find theres something wrong with it? Its going to be very awkward if you have to work with them everyday and it comes up in a conversation there's something wrong with your car....surely your better off going to a legitimate dealer and buying through them!?

Why people buy privately is beyond me.

    Hi Beth
that's the risk you take, if it breaks down it will be my problem, not the sellers so not worth the conversation! Its worth the price im paying, ill spend monies on a service and wish for good luck from then onwards and if the worst comes to the worst and it dies then ill move on.

Many thanks for all of your replies

Is this statement because the Mini you had a crash in was a cat d?
Probably nothing wrong with the car until you wrapped it up.;)

Pretty sure I brought my Mini new, and seeing as it was my first car, no.

Not rich at all. Just had to work very hard for 12 months to get something I wanted.

And then I had to get a loan.

So are you telling me if for example your engine backs up after a week, and you have done nothing to it- you wouldn't say something? Sounds like your a mug to me.

Im guessing he approached you? :rotfl:

I would buy a cat D or C as long as it was fully declared, and priced to match. heavily discounted, 1/2 to 3/4 value is where i'd want to be with it.
