The car finally went into the garage on Friday and amongst all the stuff they told me that I didn't understand, the switch had melted and they had to change the whole module (their terminology not mine). This came to a grand total of £223.73 - ouch! It makes me wish I had the skills to fix it for 27p! thanks to everyone for their input, I managed to go in there not sounding like a daft lassie ripe for ripping off - or perhaps I didn't, looking at what they charged me lol
