How can I prove I had a policy before the one they are settling! Hi there
Thanks to this site, I applied for PPI compensation, and have previously been successful on old bank loans, and today have finally received an offer from our mortgage company, stretching back to 2002-2005. However, when I made the claim, I made one claim, starting in 97, and going through to 2005, as we remained with the same mortgage company, but moved house 4 times. Northern Rock state that after a thorough investigation, the relevant companies have been unable to find any record of our PPI payments for the years preceeding 2002 as it was 2 different insurers.

I know for certain that my husband had a policy during those years, it was the ones they are settling I was unsure of! The Northern Rock have made us an offer for the 2002 - 2005 period, but if we agree to take that payment, we also agree that the entire matter is closed, ie, from 97 -2002, 5 years that they are not compensating us for due to them having no records therefore we didnt pay it...
I have contacted them, and they insist they have been thorough - which I am not convinced about, given that someone contacted me only 3 days ago, and said they had yet to get responses from the other insurers, yet today, a letter arrived in France making us the offer for the period she questioned me about and they now say that miraculously, the 2 other insurers have now replied and find no records - having taken 3 months, suddenly they have replied!

I have been told I need proof we paid as the insurers are apparently saying they have no record at all, so I contacted LLoyds - our bank, but they tell me their records only go back to 2001, which I find hard to believe in this day and age! Can anyone suggest another route I can go down to get proof somehow that we paid the premiums! I know we did, I just need proof!

    Sorry for the lengthy post.

If neither your lender nor your insurer have any records from 17 years ago ( and why should they? ) then your complaint is over unless you can provide proof of payment from your own archive. Even in this "day and age" records are typically kept for only six years, not two decades.

Data protection act requires firms to destroy records that are no longer required. The regulator recommends 6 years for most classes of business. Although that is just the guidance. Some follow it. Some hold on for a bit longer. However, inevitably, records get destroyed.

Did you even use NR own product? Maybe a mortgage broker arranged it? (which wont help you if they did as they were not regulated back then and dont need to consider your complaint).

Hi, is there anyone who have had loans in the past that had health issues.
I have had 5 loans with a bank from 1992-2000. I was diagnosed with Hypertension in 1990. When applying for the loans I was never asked if I had any health issues. I always took out PPI for my own security should anything go wrong. I have never been advised that claims may not or will not be paid due to my health. Can anyone advise me if they have been in a similar situation with PPI and made a successful claim. I have received my initial claim form from the bank.
    Many thanks Bazza2001.

Just an update, applied to Natwest to claim for mis-sold PPI and they have agreed and paid up. May I just say that the bank handled the claim in an exemplary manner the whole way through and they kept me updated regularly.

Hi thanks for taking the time to reply to me. We had the mortgage with Northern Rock, but the PPI was a seperate insurer, cardif pinacal or Aviva, as the mortgage was ported twice, these were the providers apparently, according to their records, hence they have been contacted but have no record of our account. Surely if they know they were the insurers, they must have a record of the account!

Also, as I said, when the rep contacted me 3 days before, she said on the phone that she could only talk about the policy 2002, as the other insurers had not yet responded. We have also had 2 letters stating that they were still investigating and waiting for information prior to this - as it has taken much longer than the aim to settle within X amount of weeks.
So to miraculously have received the response from them, on that day, after speaking to me, enabling them to offer to settle, and then type and send a letter to France.... wow!
I just think they are trying to get it settled and get us to agree, as it has been so long since the claim, and so are just saying that they have no record of it. I do know we had it, but I have no records myself, so I guess its a case of be happy that you have something!

    Again thanks

High blood pressure would not have prevented you claiming on the insurance, so you don't have a valid complaint.

If you don't believe them, send a SAR letter and prove to yourself that they are telling the truth. I think you'll find it's a waste of £10.

I am not sure how you can claim it was missold to you, when you state you took it out for your own piece of mind.
The claim for misselling is basically for when you were unaware you even had it / agreed to it / were sold it on the basis / impression that you had no choice.

You openly say you took it out knowingly just in case.

If what you are asking, is if you can claim you were miss sold because you had high blood pressure, and they never asked you to disclose existing medical problems, I doubt you would have been able to claim for high blood pressure regardless, as its often improved simply with diet and exercise, therefore not a condition likely to be covered.

  • HI A few months ago Lloyds wrote to me about a couple of loans that i had ppi on and I had successful claims paid out. I contacted them last week and asked them to look at the remaining loans and also credit cards that are linked to my accounts with them. i have received the questionnaire this morning from them. My query is I cant recall how i applied for them if they were online or in branch or over the phone. If I ring them or go into the branch would they tell me? Thanks
