  • Hi, can anyone help me???
I was contacted by Barclays saying that I had been mis sold ppi with my graduate loan. I took out the loan back in 2005 and if I remember it was about 5k and my payments about £150 a month. I think I can remember them asking me in the branch if I wanted insurance to which I said no. The reasons why I didn't want the insurance was that my employer have me sick pay if needed and my parents wud help me out if need be. Am I ok to say this?? I'm worried that they will say no because I should have checked that I wasn't paying it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as the money would come in extremely handy. Thanks in advance.

You need not be worried about checking as most loans were front loaded with PPI
It was the agreement that should have been checked at the time .
most complaints have been just about that and in many cases upheld.

Were the loans paid off early on the other ones and your friends ones?

No, my other one ran its full term and I got £900 for 5k over five years. My friend got just shy of 3k for 12k over 10 years. Both of these were with halifax. Hence why I was so surprised for such a low offer with hsbc but maybe their ppi worked differently. I just thought a £228 ppi premium on a 7k loan over 7 years seemed a little small.... Especially as the loan ran its full term and was repaid in full. I understand all cases are different and judged on their own merits. Just don't want to get robbed again

    Thanks
  • I have finally got all my paperwork and old statements together for various store and credit cards etc. I have had some of them since the 1990's and it seems I have paid PPI on several of them.

I have been round and round in circles on here looking for information but there are so many pages and threads that I can't find all the information I need. I hope you don't mind me asking a couple of quick questions:

    1. Who do I contact about paying PPI for many years on a Principles store card? The paperwork mentions Ikano and also GE Capital.

    2. I had a loan around 2003 with Cahoot. Who do I contact about a possible PPI claim?

Thank you for your help in advance.

1 - whoever owns the card now - you complain to them, they reject your complaint because it was pre-regulation, then you find out who the insurer was - probably genworth, then you complain to them

2 - cahoot - if they aren't going any longer, your complaint is over. If they are still going, it's probably over anyway because it was pre-regulation

If you repaid this loan in full then you should receive more PPI, query this with them.
Is it possible that this refund is for another loan? ask them.

I have had various loans and credit cards over the last 20 years or so, as has my husband. As far as I know I am unlikely to have opted for ppi in more recent years but there is a chance I have been paying it on earlier products. I am almost certain my husband has had ppi on a couple of cards. My problem is I don't have much paperwork beyond the last four years or so and am a bit sketchy on dates of accounts etc. Is this something a ppi claims firm can take on for us and do the research work? Or do we need some solid proof of accounts before we get off the starting blocks?

no, a PPI firm would not research your credit history, you do that.

Pay attention to the difference betwen open and closed accounts.

  • I contacted Santander with regards to PPI, I had two mortgages with Abbey National, the only details I could find at the time were the two addresses I had had mortgages for and one of the mortgage account numbers. I stupidly assumed that as I have had the same bank account (same account number) with Abbey/Santander for over 25 years they could simply check my history.

I knew I had been sold ppi but was told by Santander that they could find 'No Trace' of any Paymentcare. Since this letter I have sent many hours searching through boxes of paperwork and have found Paymentcare payments on one mortgage and a number of unspecified insurance policies attached to the other mortgage.

My problem is this, I don't believe Santander checked my history and so have no trust that they will be honest about any details I give them now. For example, one of the mortgages I only have direct debt insurance reference numbers.

Should I now apply to the ombudsman or would using a ppi claim company carry more weight?
