Got a letter from HSBC recently saying I may have been mis-sold PPI on a loan 6 and a half years ago. One of the reasons stated seemed pertinent so I completed the form they sent and returned it, along with a copy of my employment contract from that date (relating to possible mis-sell reason).

As they contacted me, I assumed they would have a record of the loan and paperwork for some reason. Now realised that may not be the case. Do you think I should re-send the form now and include the paperwork or wait till they contact me?

Has been nearly 2 weeks since I returned the form but have had no confirmation of receipt as yet.

I contacted the Halifax and began a complait to which they said I had been paying PPI the whole time on both cards. I have just recieved a letter from them as a 'final response' they have offererd me a payment of £238 to 'bring this complaint to a conclusion'.

Does this amount seem correct? It seems a little on the low side if I was paying monthly premiums for 6 years on 2 cards.

I would be grateful of any advice.

Unless you know what you paid you're not in a position to argue about it.
If you paid off the balance monthly or as near as, you would have paid very little PPI. If there was a lartge outstanding balance and you only paid a minimum payment each month, you would have paid much more than 238.

You c an either decline their offer, and either send a SAR to see what info they have left and whether this adds up to more than 238 or tell them you are disputing the maount, or you can accept their offer, or you can reject their offer, send a SAR and then forward your complaint to the Ombudsman.

You could send a Sar request, enclose £10 and give them 40 days to respond, ask for all info they hold on you, if you get no joy with this then send it to FOS.
Had Santander responded sooner, it is possible they would still hold the info.
The 6 year deadline is not exact, some keep info for longer than this, claims have been won with loans from 90s, do you have any other info regarding this loan that would help them?.

Many thanks for this - I will give it a go if they do not come back to me with a satisfactory response. Jon

I'm looking into if i can claim ppi.

The only loan i had was my mortgage and i had ppi on the mortgage but it was with connell residentia not the bank the mortgage was with.

The only info i still have is old bank statements with a reference number for the direct debit, is this something i can go further with?

You can only complain about PPI if it was mis-sold to you. It's not somehow wrong to have insurance and mortgage PPI is still considered worth having even today.
Post more detail, dates etc, and we may be able to help you further...
  • So with MSE's help I've just recently got an offer (although Goodwill and not admitting liability) of nearly £3.5K on a Lombard Direct (now RBS) loan nearly 13 years old! :) Will have to share the story in the other thread....

I have a question that I'm hoping someone may be able to answer or help with about putting in another claim for compensation due to the mis-selling of my policy. Before I accept the offer.

Long story as short as possible.
    • Approx 3 years into a 5 year loan I had a car accident
    • Back injury forced stopped me from working 2-3 weeks
    • Went back to work, temping. Income reduced
    • Struggled with payments. Loan collections dept chased aggressively
    • Eventually went into payment arrangement (paying less than initially agreed loan amount) extending loan by another year approx
    • Got adverse credit, couldn't move into another flat at the time
    • At no point did Loan company contact me about PPI covering any of it
Spoke to FOS who said that that Lombard/RBS should review a compensation claim if I submit one separately. Has anyone had to write a letter anything near similar to this? I'm not really sure where to start and don't know if i should as it was so long ago and I already have more than I expected.

Any help, thoughts, ideas much appreciated in advance.
  • I have over the years had several credit cards, loans and catalogue accounts and mobile phone contracts to name but a few.
However; I no longer have any of the paperwork and I am unsure how I can find out what companies I was with.

I know that I had paid off the accounts, but I wonder how I can find out which companies I was with and the account details.

    Thanks for your help!

You will have to check your credit report which will show 6 years history, which includes any agreements ended or began during the 6 years. Before that, no one can tell you.

People have had success with noddle, but if you join for a months free trial with experian or equifax, they will give you the hard sell when you try to leave, so be ready and stick to your guns.

Once you know who you banked with, you'll have to send a SAR and £10 to each one to find out what paperwork is left.

Then you can make your complaints.

You will need the account number [of the loan or credit card, NOT the PPI number] and a complaint reason, or two or three :)

I put in a PPI claim with NatWest 8 weeks ago today - last I heard from them was a call on Friday asking some questions - they said I'd get their decision within 8 weeks ... as I haven't - what now?

you can wait for a couple more weeks to hear from them, or you can wait up to 18 months with the FOS.
