The EuroTabac guys used to have a kiosk in Alicante airport just before you go through the first set of scanners - "street" prices rather than duty free, although the shops in Benidorm often had bottles of booze or spirits (or free beach towels/hats etc) with 800s/1000s.

Oh and if you're worried about the costs to the NHS of cancer, don't forget the sun-cream (unlike all the other a$$holes whe couldn't be bothered, but are currently taking more out than they ever paid in).

Hi. 4 of us are planning on going to Spain in April (returning the same day) to stock up on cigs for ourselves (definitely not to sell on) and was just wondering if we're allowed to do this or can customs be funny with you if you go and come back in the same day with your allowance of tobacco?

If we get stopped by customs will we be ok with the amount of cigs we have on us (we are only bringing back our allowance) and if asked why we went to Spain for the day would we be ok saying to stock up on cigs or would we be better saying something else? Anything else i should know?

Just out of interest how much is this day trip costing ? I don't smoke but are the savings worthwhile
  • ^I don't smoke either but the cigs here in Spain (at least the ones that my friend smokes) are 2.20 euros for twenty (about £1.50). I believe in the Uk they are over a fiver.

Probably around £500 saving on UK prices for your standard allowance.

I make it closer to £750-800, depending on costs and flights. This was based on travelling from London Stansted to Barcelona via Ryanair, and taking a holdall as hand luggage. Either way, it was £35pp for flights, and a saving of £850 on Golden Virginia tobacco and Mayfair fags, based on prices in Euros at eurotabaco.net converted via XL.com, and prices for the stuff at Tesco.com.

Think I'm gonna have to send the other half over to get some for herself!! (I don't smoke, and hold no passport, so no point me attempting this!)

Flying with easyjet going and returning the same day for £60 per person (Still checking to see if we can get it cheaper though). Parking the car at the airport £5 (spliting the cost between 4). Taxi or bus to town and back £??? (can't cost too much) and something to eat and drink, about £15. Total about £90 each.

I went to Salou in Spain last June and came back with 3200 Royals which are about £3 cheaper than Lambert & Butler. I normally smoke Lambert & Butler here but Royals taste the same so i saved myself some money. If they still cost £17 then it's going to cost me £272 to buy from Spain but would cost for the same amount of L&B here £560 so a saving of about £200 taking the travel cost into account. Well worth it in my view. Plus my boyfriend saves the same amount so well worth it especially now we're looking for our first home.
  • Metrobus is wrong, the guidelines are 3200 cigs or 3kg of tobacco, (not both)
My sister had all her cigs confiscated as she was well over the guideline and they said she hadn`t proved to their satisfaction that they were for her own use. They don`t have to prove anything so you could lose your cigs if the officer has got out of bed the wrong side or had a row with the missus or something.

Another example of NuLab at work, why do you have to prove you are innocent ?
How are you expected to prove they are for your own use ? Cough up a diseased lung ?
