Verify OEM Download

What you're probably thinking of is an MD5 Checksum, which can be used either to check for corruption or to confirm that an ISO is genuine.
You do of course have to be careful - if trying to do the latter, there's no point in believing what the original source tells you - you need to get the hash from a trusted source. IIRC, Microsoft themselves have in the past published them for some media, but I can't recall offhand where.
The other thing to be careful about is downloading MD5 checksum generators, as I think there are a few scams around there. It's easy enough to generate one with free, open source software.0 -

Thanks Fwor.
I have installed the OEM and all seems well now.0 -
No it's not. The older Windows OS only verified the license number entered, not the disc.
Technically (if I remember rightly), using a borrowed disk or a pirated one off the Internet is a breach of the copyright/licensing agreement. You are only licensed to use the original disk supplied by the OEM or a replacement (which OEM often supply for a nominal fee)...0 -

md5sums.
You need to find what the checksum of a genuine disk is and run md5sums on the ISO you have then compare it.0 -

Nearly correct. The exception is if there is a recovery partition that is still intact.0 -

Only depending on your interpretation! I was referring specifically to OS installation CDs, but yeah technically what I said was ambiguous...0 -

SHA-1 checksums, which can be found on TechNet..0 -

Since he was referring to an OEM disc, he would not have found it there.
Even more so, if it is the disc for a specific brand of computer.
There are hashes for the specific part numbers, but you have to be very specific as to the disc in order to obtain the correct part number and from there, the correct hash.
Notwithstanding, the OP appears to have gone ahead and installed anyway.0
