How to size a thermal store

Anyone got any tips on how to size a thermal store?

My heating system uses about 50000 BTUS at the moment (rads + DHW + 20% wastage) and I want to leave another 5000 BTU in case i do a loft conversion in the future to add another bedroom. I have one bathroom and one shower room.

I am by no means an expert but my understanding is your thermal store size in litres should be between 30 and 50 times the Kw output of your heat source. I would hold out for a more definitive answer though.

Spoke to Gledhill and they were very helpful. No point in having a thermal store for heating unless the store is 1000 litres. 1 tonne of water in the loft...no thanks!

Hi,
I have a 250ltr thermal store (heatweb.com) fed with a Stratford SEB20 multifuel stove (usually burn XL ovoids in winter) and 2x 24 tube thermal solar.
The heating works very well with this and provides all are hot water needs (detached 4 bed, 2 bathroom house)
I have the thermal store in the loft, it JUST fit through the 450mm loft hatch and I did need to put joists at 90' to existing to strengthen the floor.
