    And this is why BG regard Uswitch as a commercial competitor.
    :money:
  • I am a door to door salesman for scottish hydro electric ( SSE, southern elec, swalec)
    now heres the real deal. you have one supplier for gas in each region of the country. now SSE has bought 50% of scotia (the gas networking around scotland) therefore buying your gas from us is the cheapest in scotland, thats a given, there is no arguing you can research this yourself.
    In england, N Power supplies all of the north with gas, you cant get cheaper than then for gas in the north.
    Im not sure about the mid part.
    But in the south, guess who. us again, we supply the gas, you cant get cheaper, once again a fact.
    BG was bought over in 1996 when deregulation happened by a company called Centrica. they are a French company who kept the BG logo because its the one ppl recognise. But in fact they are just a billing company they buy their gas off of your local suppliers and sell it bk to you at higher prices, now someone above was correct when they said that BG were not allowed to lower thier prices and the reasons he gave I couldnt have put better myself.

    So thats your gas, Scotland = Scottish Hydro is cheapest
    Mid= No idea
    South= Southern Electric
    its in the names ppl its not rocket science.

    Now your electric is a little different.
    There are 18 different regions for your electric, so you need to find who your local supplier is and they will be cheapest. thats not including any duel fuel discounts or direct debit discounts.

    So if you get ur gas off of your local supplier your probly better off keepin your electric there as well. the discouns work out. If anyone tries to tell you any different then slap them. Its all !!!!!!!!. thats why I only work in area. because it means i dont have to lie to ppl it jus takes simple logic.

    Now to those who like to compare prices online, no offence but ur all dumbasses.
    90% of the sites you use are opperated by the gas and electric companies meaning they are going to be bias. Plus they dont take into consideration things such as Standing Charges, Maintanence Charges or Rental Fees for meters. so dont use them , if you want a comparison phone all the companies and ask for rates and percentges of discounts, then use the same usuage in KW/h for every one and see which one comes out best.

    It's simple logic.

    So.....

    for all those with any queries jus ask and all the suppliers will try to tell your different ignore their jibba jabba and jus ask for unit prices. its the best way to get the best deal.

    Oh dear. Just about got to the second paragraph before needed to reply.
    This is the type of stuff the door steppers get told to say. I know coz we had one come to work for us and was totally suprised when he found ot Centrica was British.

    No. These are Distributors (aka Transporters) All they do is carry the gas, not supply it. Totally different, illegal to be otherwise. Northern Gas Networks has nothing to do with npower - they are part owned by united utilities though.

    Aaargh. Lies! Is this why SSE is now the 2nd biggest supplier?

    Once, a long time ago there were price restictions on 'host' suppliers. This was removed in 2001 (Utilities Act 2000). Nice to see SSe keep their sales people up to date.

    Thank you - you are continueing to reaffirm peoples opinions of door steppers as people who only know what they are told and refuse to believe anything else.

    14 different regions, another simple mistake. Again, illegal for the 14 electricity distributors to offer preferantial service to their sister companies.

    So, the Energywatch accredited scheme means nothing?

    Well, that bit actually makes sense. A bit suprised.

    To all sensible people, there are websites out there whcih explain the full industry I'll not bore you with it.
    The switching sites are as good as the information you put in, so use kWh and the answers will be there or thereabouts.

    And breathe...

    If they turn up to my door I usually say automatically I am already with the cheapest supplier and that I check regularly. If they argue I'll then say I'm not bothered about saving money. Really annoyed a powergen bloke doing this. He wouldn't go away though. I had to be rude to him to make him go away in the end and I wrote a complaint to his employer. Disappeared into the ether I imagine but made me feel better :) . Got stuck with them anyway as they took over Amerada who were dirt cheap.

    They also lie and say they are your supplier when they aren't so I'm usually even ruder to them then.

    You know they are giving you flannel when they refuse to tell you what the unit prices are.

    About an hour after I posted above, I got a phone call from British Gas trying to persuade me from changing energy supplier.

    After trying to persuade me, unsuccessfully, that BG were actually cheaper - he played his trump card and offered me a £25 credit on my next bill.
    When I told him I was getting £55 from Quidco, he gave up !
